 Soldier Adoptions HOORAH! It's Twins
I've become a MOM to TWO YES TWO US Soldiers now serving in IRAQ. I joined Soldiers' Angels and adopted two US Military Soldiers. One a boy and one a girl. Both are serving in Iraq far from home and in harms way. I have already written to my son (Jan) and tomorrow I will write my daughter (Mary). Whats involved with joining this wonderful program. Soldiers' Angels - Home All you have to do is promise to write a letter or send a card with a note every week and a package once a month. If you do not want to do your own package you can buy one through Soldier's Angels and since they are a 501-C3 charity you can claim a tax deduction. I plan on doing my own packages with all my freebies and coupon deals and you can send up to 70 lbs for flat rate $8.95. All the packaging material is available for FREE at the USPS (CareKit-04). What a wonderful idea! I think that's something for me to definitely look in to. Congrats on your new twins!

That is the most wonderful thing anybody could ever do...... The people that are over there really need to hear from home even if it is an adopted home, It helps them to remember that we here in the states are thinking of them every day. I know that I for one have prayed more over the last few years than I ever have in my lifetime. Each and every one of these BRAVE souls that have been and are over there need the prayer's and support of all of us, They are doing something that is so dangerous and life threatening each and every day and night that they are over in IRAQ. I know that I have another post about my (HERO'S) boy's, and I have stated in that post that they are no longer in IRAQ. I just wish that every Mother, Father, Brother and Sister of each and everyone that is over there could say the same thing as me. (OUR LOVED ONE IS HOME)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is so great of you..i am going to have to look into that..with all the great deals i get at CVS i could send them a ton of stuff.. i wonder if they would like a box full of toothpaste..hahahaha... |

Mary, I have to say I received alot of pleasure from sending those boxes figuring in some small way that it was providing those very brave kids a measure of comfort. Good job.

My boyfrien is going in October. I've been on the look out for freebies I can stockpile in his bag, and have to send later. I just can't figure out how to get hot sauce/salsa to Iraq. I've heard, several times, salsa makes MREs edible. Thoughts? Send me a PM. Lauren  I wear a yellow ribbon in my hair (my bf is an army traditionalist, a yellow ribbon means you have a "sweetheart" in the calvary.... he's in armored cav (tanks). Any time I'm on base or around soldiers, that ribbon goes in! |

Neat idea. I remember when my daughter was on a Pacific island for a couple of years and couldn't get much stuff (boat came in once a month), since it was a US territority we could use US postage (not military) and I sent peanut butters and all kinds of stuff they as a young family needed and wanted. I am sure the military personnel can really use and will appreciate any and everything you all do. Go for it!!I think I'll let the elementary teachers know about this and see if their classes would like to adopt!

What kind of stuff are ya'll sending your soldiers? I'm working on my next goodie box: So far I know chapstick (I don't feel as thirsty if my lips aren't dry kleenex I saw baby wipes at CVS for $1.......those are going in and (2) $10 ATT phone cards - got them BOGO Ric Kripsies...........perfect for the heat, if they melt, they just turn into a different shape, no chocolate! I think some heat patches and some cool ones too......they are flat and light, if someone strains something, esp. backs What do ya'll think, what are ya'll sending?

My husband is heading out soon on his 4th deployment. I can tell you from his experience, that not having any support from family/friends is the worst part about being out there. I always tried to send extra's in the packages, and now that I am couponing I will actually be able to send more with this next deployment for his single soldiers who dont have anyone back home. You are doing something wonderful for these soldiers that I know they wont forget. I include all sorts of things in care packages.. Cookies (Chocolate Chip) Mini Chocolate Bars (they really dont melt, and they wouldnt care anyways!) Seasoned/flavored Tuna Pouches Crackers Trail Mixes Sunflower Seeds I could go on and on.. I ALWAYS included: Baby Wipes Deodorant Toothpaste Body Wash Shampoo Most soldiers can get these items at the post exchange, but sometimes they just dont have the time.
