| desperately in need of "kid" advice
OK all you parents out there, if you have a kid that is in KG or remember when your was, I need advice!!!!!!!!!!!! My 5 yr old son comes home just out of control, way to much energy, not listening and just all out and out acting up. This is soooo not his personality so I think I need to have an everyday "routine" in place for him so he continues with a "structured day" What is you routine for when your young ones come home from school????? |

Its been 2 weeks of school and usually within 5 minutes of her being home I'm pulling my hair out, she crying or in timeout...sometimes all 3. I will be watching this thread as I'm in the same boat!

First, they are usually hungry, so I feed them. They usually relax by watching a video. After dinner they do their homework, then bath time and bed. My kids are grown, but I pick up my grandkids everyday after school and I use the same routine with them. The grandkids usually stay with me during the week, their mom works crazy hours, so I do all the school stuff. HTH good luck! They are 9 and 6.

| Does any practice "Love and Logic"??? Although i'm sure a routine would help. I would also practice some love and logic. You need to teach him that no matter how crazy his day gets he cannot act like that around you. HTH

My son was like this too. He is a kid, they have energy! Bring him to the park, poor guy has been pent up in class all day learning how to sit still and pay attention. When I was little KG was half a day. We learned to work with kids and did alot of art and played and read stories took naps .. now KG is more like first grade.. it is more structured and more work(no naps O.O). If you kid has not been in preschool than it is alot to adjust to.

what works for my children is limited tv and early bed. We have cable for the first time in years and their behavior for the summer was crazy. They have an hour or so free time before dinner. They play quietly, read a book or some other activity of their choice. After dinner and homework, they take baths and we talk, read, and they go to bed early. I try for 7:30. Most nights it's 8p.m. I think early bedtime is also great. Sometimes they need more rest. Just my two cents.

my daughter is being the same way. she is exhausted and overwhelmed with the more structured routine and having to be quieter and pay attention. She has been in preschoool for two years before K this year, so I feel ya. We have been letting them eat a meal by four and snack at actual dinner time. THey are too hungry and crabby otherwise and want to fill up on junk = too much sugar and more bad behavior. Early bedtime is also a must. Good luck! We will all get through this.

hi we have been doing the above also dinner when they get home and then snack when we eat he is starving and then "quiet" time with a video while I cook and then bath/shower and bed. It does help if they have too much energy and are saying they aren't hungry to burn off some energy playing outside if possible.

Maybe have something special set up that the two of you do together when he gets home. You could set the timer for 30 or 45 mins and let him know that is time for the two of you. Let him know that the time starts but that you won't play with him until he settles down and listens. He will then have the choice to play with you for the full time or not. Choose activities that you know he likes and that he will want to spend the entire time doing. If he can start off his evening settled down, chances are he will continue the rest of the evening that way.
