By the time you read this the Mods may have already cleaned it up.

A new spammer with a quick 23 posts today. Unlike the usual spammers, this one started with semi jibberish to jibberish replies to old posts, & then began new spam threads.

Probably figured some forums Mod approve the first 1-3 posts (as opposed to days) & figured it'd get by review starting without spam. LOL!

Some of us do sleep, but you are right...some people do talk jibberish.

This is interesting. I am glad spammers are being caught, have no idea how these things happen, hate to see the junk that results from spam, delight when it stops.......

Now - can you clue some of us who are novices into what to watch for in spam? (pm would be great for this if you wish)

Usually a spammer has links promising Huge and sometimes small items for free. If the site asks for your email addy right away, then don't give it. Also look at the bottom of the page to see if there is a disclaimer. Many times you have to sign up to do many offers in order to get the item free.

BTW Lilac, they have to have a minimum post count before they can start their own thread ~ so all spammers lately are force to post 25 bogus "Thanks" kinda posts before they can really start working it.

This has slowed down the Spammers a bit and at least made them work a little for it

NOTE TO ALL ~
along the top right of each post is a triangle trimmed in red, click that and it sends e-mails to us and even if we aren't on it takes us right to the post.

LOL! That's strikes me as so funny because I didn't think a spammer would work that hard especially knowing they'll liking have a short life in most visited forum sites prior to deletion.

Only answer is there must be enough unknowledgeable folks who do click it even in a short period. Sad.

Actually, its usually all automated. If I was writing a spam program, I wouldn't even look at the pages I was using it for. It would do all of that automatically.

It's not that hard either, go look up AutoIt or GhostMouse.

They automate so far as to post 25 jibberish replies to existing threads before starting new threads with preprogrammed Title field & Message field entries?

You'd be amazed at what can be automated. Also, I am willing to bet this site isn't secured against SQL-injection, so they coudl go that route as well.

Well, that really hurts us new members. I am an avid poster on some days. Basically, because I only have time to visit forums once in awhile so I get my posting fix, chats etc out in one day. To some people it's a hobby. But, yes, you can spot a spammer by what type of offers they are posting.
