Hmmm, never heard of that. We do W-2's and receipts for tax preparation.

She uses just her last pay check stub? Interesting...

Our last pay stub is always identical to the w-2 so we've used it,too. It's easy especially when you only have one income and have been at the same job for several years.

I have in years past. If you have one of your W-2's from last year, you can see what information off your pay stub goes into which box of the W-2 to be able to file sooner.

I can pull up almost all information needed for our taxes either online or in our Quicken program. (Except for how much we spent at the vet on rescue cats.)

Right now, I need the summary of my husband's stuff from school and the numbers from the vet to finish our taxes.

I try to file as soon as possible, b/c it gets processed faster, since there aren't all that many folks filing in Late Jan/Early Feb.

Last year was the latest I've filed in years, and that was about the 3rd week of February.

Della

I see how you could do that, and honestly I thought about it. However, it made me entirely too uneasy. I would much rather wait to get my W2 instead of possibly making an error.

If you are filing a simple return you can. However you can't file a return based solely on your stub alone if you have paid interest on your mortgage, get interest from your bank, etc and want to deduct them on your return. Yes you can call each and every one to see what your real estate taxes were, mortgage interest paid was, bank interest was, and I could go on and on.

For example if you were lucky enough to have a CD in bank last year that does not show interest online, how would you know until you got your form what the interest was? I guess you could call, but seems like it would be a hassle to call everyone.

Now, my DS who is 19 and has non of the above can file immediately for his PT job while in school. Hubby and I wait until we get the rest of the information needed to file an accurate return and get back every penny we deserve!!

I thought about doing it last year, but when the W2 came, the numbers were a tiny bit different. I would love to do it since it is the only thing we need to do our taxes, but I think I will just wait. Even when our W2 comes at the end of January, I still have always gotten taxes back around the end of February. It's not too much longer to wait.

I cant do it this way...DH has our health/dental insurance and 401K
taken out PRE tax..so its not the same numbers on his last paystub that will be on the w2....Although we could just minus those amounts out...but I wouldnt chance it in my case...I usually get our taxes done the end of Jan and get the refund by mid Feb..so no rush here...
