Can anyone tell me how to cook a turkey in the oven? This is my first time hosting thanksgiving and I don't even know how to cook a turkey. I have a 12 pound turkey that has been defrosting a couple of days now. I just need to know how to cook it.

Honestly the best advice I can give you is go to Google and punch in How to cook a Turkey. Most likely there will be a tutorial and since this is your first time a visual might be helpful to you. Most important thing though is make sure to take out the bag of innards inside the bird. Good Luck and enjoy your day.

| Butterball - Celebrate Everyday has lots of tips I like to stuff mine with rough chopped apples (I don't even bother coring the apple, I throw them away after the turkey is done), onions, and rosemary. I sometimes massage butter underneath the skin of the bird (a little tricky not tearing the skin) I season with salt and pepper. I wash my hands A LOT during the prep. I baste the turkey a lot, I usually start the initial basting with chicken stock and then baste with juice from the bottom of the pan. If it starts to get too dark I cover with foil. Good luck!

I usually use one of those cook-in-bags for my turkey. That way I will not forget to baste it. I remember the first year I made a turkey, I had just got married and so there were a lot of firsts that year. I didn't know that there were the neck and giblets in the butt of the turkey, and after it was done, went to carve it, and realized that there was something hanging out of the butt. I told my hubby that "hey they didn't take everything out of the turkey"................ ![]() I have never lived that done since then, every year i get reminded to check the butt of the turkey.............. |
