| Clothes Shopping Pet Peeves
I'll be the first to admit it -- I hate shopping for clothes. If it's not the style that's waayyy out there, it's the fit, or the color or the crazy design or the cheap material or (gulp) the price. What are some of your pet peeves about shopping for clothes? |

I was looking for new bras and I was simply amazed at how every manufacturer shifts to the same design at the same time. The most current design seems to be the bra that really doesn't need "you" to participate. You know the design: the pre-molded style that is ready for filling so everyone can have that pushed up, 2 cup sizes larger filled out look. Every single rack (sorry for the pun) was full of those bras. There weren't other types except for a few sports bras anywhere in the store. What are the manufacturer's and inventory buyers thinking? |

I hate cheap material in clothing. If I can hold it up to the light and see through it then I am not going to wear it. I want good quality clothes and those are getting fewer and farther between. I had an employee of Belk Department store ask me where I got a shirt I was wearing... I replied at a Belk in SC. She said we don't carry good quality material like that here. (I was in Pigeon Forge) OHHHH and when did polyester come back... YUCK!! Cute shirts but made with polyester. On the bra ... I agree completely with your post so I found a bra fitter at a Belk near where I live. About once a year, if I have lost or gained weight, I call and ask to speak with her.. make an appointment and then she fits me... I told her I do not want everything to hang out so that when I wear my shirt it looks like I have 4 ta-tas, 2 inside the bra and the 2 that runneth over.LOL She is VERY good at her job and I do not know what I will do when she retires. Most Belk's have an older lady in their lingerie dept that is a certified bra fitter... She has been a life saver I could go on about the lack of quality in clothing but I won't LOL ... Great topic. |

hee hee hee I have another. DH and I went shoppping for the kids the other days b/c they needed some more warm things and also need a new coat. So we go to a coat 'wearhouse' dept store and they hardly had any coats, not to mention nice clothes. We remarked about 'what are the buyers thinking?' too. I guess it's just part of how the economy is. Designs get more basic and costs continue to rise. Not like the ugly coats were even cheap. !

It's like each store has their own clothes sizing...I've noticed the worst about different sizes is Old Navy. |

Totally agree with size consistency. I can try on one pair of jeans in the stack and the next pair (same size) varies so much it could be a different size.

Many stores carry very few small sizes. While I understand this, it can be frustrating to find clothes my size and I refuse to shop in the junior's dept. I'm sorry but I'm just not going to be wearing Miley Cyrus style clothing while being old enough to have grandkids. |

I noticed all the stores are over run with basic atheltic style clothing. I was so wanting a pretty feminine top and a skirt to match. No luck at all.

Here's another -- I want a sweater/sweatshirt but I don't want a holiday design on it. ![]() I want to be able to wear that article of clothing until the cold weather has finished but I don't want to have that Christmas tree/reindeer/wreath/winter wonderland scene on my clothing in February. I have a pet peeve about the store itself, I don't shop where clothes are on the floor and the store is a wreck. I go early in the morning when things are still neat. I have a HUGE problem as I'm 5'10" and most sleeves are too short and pants not long enough so most times I dread shopping. Tall stores has sizes that begin too big for me. So if I'm looking for let's say jeans, I go directly to Nordstrom's...I get great customer service and that saves me TIME (something I can't replace) and the jeans last me for years....don't have a closet full but wear what I have. I agree with cheap material, I leave it in the store....I buy investment pieces and wear for years (change look with accessories).....MUST get to the shoe store and there is where we also find our cheap materials too....but that's another thread.

OK. Here is mine. I want a plain pair of jeans. A pair of jeans that aren't the stretchy material, and when I bend over my butt doesn't fall out..... Jeans like they made years ago, that were heavier material. I actually have looked in the men's dept. for a regular pair of jeans.

I'm tired of clothing designers assuming a size 6 woman has gigantic breasts, therefore making many tops and dresses too big in the bust for me to wear. It's like there is no sense of proportion! And I am tired of too-short sleeves or ones that shrink.

I am very petite, about 5'3, 105lbs, so i am a size 1-3, depending on the manufacturer. I am in a professional career and need to look the part. I cannot fit into a size 0 @ NY & Co (too baggy around thigh area), and I refuse to pay $100 for a pair of work pants @ Talbots or Ann Taylor. So I head to Kohls, juniors dept. I am able to find decently made pants for a good price, but they never have my size!! I have a friend that works there and she says they only get in a couple of the small sizes and that's it, because there is a high demand for the larger ones. I do understand that, but I can't shop in the kids dept!! They don't make career pants for little girls!!

I was at a store today where the employees must have been trained to greet customers. That's not so bad itself. However, one guy greeted me twice! He was more focused on the greeting rather than the customer! It just made me feel weird. Oh, and the polyester.... the polyester.... When I think how many poor polyesters had to die to stock all the mall stores, I just want to cry!!!

I hate how all the pants are cut now-Everything rides on the hips. I finally found pants in a traditional fit at Lands End and bought them even though they were $40/pair. I'm not 18 anymore and even when I was didn't wear hip huggers. With the hip huggers comes a lot more exposure. My husband and I were in Home Depot over the weekend and a young girl was leaned over her cart with a couple of inches of her crack sticking out of the top of her jeans. I'm seeing this more and more and I'd much rather see less of that part of the anatomy.

| Totally forgot about the thong-My 20 year old went to vote last year and there was a girl leaned over the table. He mentioned the eyeful he got and when it was time to vote this year, it was still on his mind. Gee, I wonder why?
