Is this normal? If you freeze Kraft packaged sliced cheese, does your cheese get white spots on them after they've defrosted a few days? I just noticed this recently and am worried that it's mold and/or it's not normal ![]() Can anyone let me know their experience to give me some reassurance or otherwise? |

I'm not sure what the white spots are, but have had this happen a few times as well. In my expierance, the cheese was just fine. I freeze cheese all the time with no problems. Cept the block cheese, had to learn that one on my own. It just crumbles after defrosting. Which now they sell cheese crumbles in the stores, go figure. Lynda |

the white spots are mold - if you defrost cheese, use it immediately

Ours has always had the white spots and we've never had a problem with it. We eat it with no problems. So if it is mold, then oops! We'll still be eating it!

| seems like a little more sandy in texture with the white spots...
I have bought cheese- the pricey Land o Lakes American sliced at the deli-and it had those white spots upon purchase. It has something to do with the freezing process (the store apparently had it in the freezer they said...) - but its been fine to eat

Just make sure you defrost it in the fridge, not on the counter and you'll be fine.

I like your way of thinking Bette! After all, cheese is mold. I think the white spots, after thinking about this, could be from the small air pockets in the celaphane. Apon freezing the cheese, these air pockets allow a small freezer burn to appear as white spots. LOL I'm just kidding, or am I?? Lynda Last edited by Lynda1811; 06-21-2009 at 11:05 PM. |

if you take a fresh slice of cheese drop a spec of water on a spot you will see the exact same kind of spot does not harm the cheese in any way for other kinds of chesses not the singles if you get mold on it you just cut it off think cheese block cheese has mold on it when they get done pasturizing the cut off the mold and go from there |
