| Hiding clearance merchandise- YOUR TAKE.
Ok, I touched on this topic briefly in a thread but it got me to wondering what the rest of you think. I know we are all out looking for a great deal, but PERSONALLY, I draw the line at hiding things that are on clearance so I have a better shot at getting them. I don't think it's immoral or anything, but I do find it aggravating. No rudeness, please. I just want to know what YOU feel for YOURSELF. And please don't get this thrown in controversy corner because I disabled my CC access and I would like to hear what you think.

I am tempted to do it especially when I know I have a coupon for it that I forgot but my guilt overcomes me so I just let it go. I just have that nagging feeling it will come back to bite me later, kwim? If a cashier I know or the SM is friendly, I'd ask if I can leave the items at the counter and will be back immediately to buy them. I'll give them a time frame so that if I'm not back in X minutes or hours, they can put them back in the clearance carts. It worked for me a few times, its worth to ask. This happened just a week ago, I found the Planters for digestive health on clearance @ .99 and I have $1/2 coupons at home. I begged the cashier to keep 8 canisters for me and I'll come back in 20 minutes, which I did.

Would someone hid it because they think it will go on clearance or a higher clearance? I know there are always good deals out there and we have dry spells but I personally love to get great deals and share great deals . I know alot of people on afc share because I love reading about it. Im not sure I understand hiding but I know maybe someone can enlighten me. Not judging either---just curious. |

People have been tucking away items they are interested in as long as I can remember. Ever wonder why you're looking in the size 10 rack and you find a size 2? Ever wonder why a garment is in a totally different section of the store and is tucked away far in the back? You got it! They are coming back for it later and want it available for them. Now I know this is not always the case, but it does happen. It also makes life miserable for the clerks working the store who have to straighen things. Now if you're in the CVS and you see they have 1 Sambucol left and you don't have your CVS ECB with you or any cash to buy it at $12.99, are you gonna tuck it away behind the pampers or in the paper towel section so that you can come back in 1 hour and find it to buy so you can get your $10 ECB (January is runnig out, folks)? It is done. Is it fair? I guess. But then again, if you don't return and buy it then it is an item some poor clerk is going to have to remove and place where it belongs. Better you see the the cashier or pharmacy counter will hold it for a little while for you.

I don't hide anything. All the deals eventually come around again. I never need anything that bad to want to hide it.

I want to thank whoever hid the Carter's Christmas pajamas in size 18 months at my local Macy's! That was a wonderful $3.20 spent on a $20 pair of pajamas for my DD! ![]() I've never been one to hide stuff, but I always have a way of finding the hidden clothing deals! |

I think it is funny when people do this because I have learned to always check to the very back on the clearance rack. Always check the bottom shelf in the back. Thats where people tend to stash stuff they are coming back for. I ask the clerks to hold stuff for me if I will be right back so I know it will be there when I get back. Tricia |

This isn't clearance hiding but along the same lines. Years ago i used to work in a video store. New releases were on Wednesday...we always had this customer who'd pop in to say hi & what new releases are here. Well, every Friday & Sat. we'd be going nuts cause the computer would show we had 2 new releases left at 7 p. m. but they could'nt be found on the shelves. He would always come up with them & at first we were thinking what a lucky guy. Then we caught on. People will hide anything.

I've never thought to hide something. If it's meant for me to buy it, then it will be there the next time....if not oh well. I probably didn't need it or even have the money for it.
