There is a organization you can donate them too if you don't want money for them or you can freecycle them also if you don't want money for them. If you want money for them you can put them on craigslist when it close to prom time depending on what the dresses look like.

One of the bridesmaids from my wedding donated her dress to a charity that provides prom dresses to needy girls, so if they are the giant taffeta nightmares of the 80's perhaps you could do that. Otherwise check out consignment stores, especially around prom time- or right now they should be starting to take them- you could probaly get a few bucks for them. |

If you are handy with a needle and thread you could alter them to be something that you would actually wear or utilize the fabric to make something totally different. i.e. a silky throw pillow, a baby dress, trim on curtains or towels. I have done these before and they have turned out great. |

I kept the one I wore in my friends wedding. I guess Im just too sentimental to get rid of it. Plus its so beautiful with the beading.

When Halloween comes around, I LOVE to bust out those bridesmaids dresses. I have bought ribbon in white, glittery letters, a small bouquet of fake flowers, and a tiara..........and crowned myself Miss BBW Texas. Pick a fruit or vegetable and crown yourself. Horrible pea green dress? You're now Miss Snap Peas. Get all of your friends together, and everyone wear an ugly Bridesmaid dress, just kinda funny. Had one group, when the corps' bride was out go as the corps bide's bridesmaids. If you don't mind ruining the dress.....and it's horrible. Get some fake blood, bandages, knife.....go as a fashion victim. But, if any way the dress is pretty, donate it for prom dress, or take to your local Jr. high or HS and donate it to the drama department.

I would donate to whoever organizes dresses, shoes, jewelry, pantyhose, makeup, etc. for less fortunate girls during the springtime so all can go to the prom..I've lived in both Idaho and Virginia in the last couple of years and both states had a group that was collecting anything that wasn't too out of date to be seen in...it would do your heart good to know some girl is having the time of her life in something you'll never wear again..

If you can't find that, give to goodwill. I talked to a lady at a goodwill store one time, who was so excited to find a plus size bridesmaid dress. She was the drama teacher at the local jr. high, and in the play her star was a big girl............and they had no costuming for the lead girl. The dress was so pretty, I hope that girl felt like a princess.

Just like others said, my high school has a clothing closet for prom each year. It would help a lot, dresses, purses, shoes etc.

This is so funny....My daughter lives in Wisconsin, so next Friday, one of her friends is having a party were everyone wears their prom/wedding/bridesmaid gowns and they will have drinks and prizes for there gowns...I think there will be around 10 of them...sounds like a lot of fun... But anyway my daughter cut one of her gowns off and when she went on a cruise wore it then for the dress up night it looked great.... |

Great suggestions and some are the ones I would have suggested, too. Prom dresses for needy, consign, goodwill stores, drama departments at high schools. But also don't overlook the possibility that some church has a "closet" for helping young ladies have the wedding of their dreams. They accept wedding dresses and brides maids dresses and lend or give them to young girls who can't afford to purchase their own. Or another idea, contact a local home economics teacher who teaches sewing. She might like to have bridesmaids dresses so the students can learn to alter a dress to fit or remake to be currently fashionable.

Look in your area for a organization called "Cinderella Project". They clean and mend dresses for teen girls for prom.
