Scheduled C-Section?

I was at the Dr's this afternoon and even though I'm 37 weeks pregnant I've not progressed (cervix is still long, no dialation, baby is still high) the way I should be according to the Dr. The Dr suggested that I schedule a C-Section. She feels that this is the best option knowing my past pregnancy. My first was 1 week overdue with no dialation. I was induced and only dialated to a 4 before they made the call to give me a C-Section. These are my questions...To the women who've had a scheduled C-Section what are your experiences, good and bad? Would you do it again? What drugs were you given before the surgery? Any other advice or tips would be much appreciated. I was looking foreward to having a VBAC this time but it just doesn't look like its going to happen. I've given myself a week to weigh the pros and cons and to try and get this baby moving on its own. TIA

I had placenta previa with my first so I had to have a scheduled c/s and it went great. I never went into labor so was not worn out from that. When I had DS I had a repeat c/s and that was scheduled as well. Again everything went well even better than the first time. I had them both at 39 weeks 4 days, I felt it was important to wait until they were almost ready to be here. I was given a morphine block after the c/s for pain, but for some reason they do not work for me so the second time they upped the amount. I had a spinal both times for the surgery. My doctor would not allow for me to have a VBAC because my pregnancies were so close. If you really want a VBAC then I would wait it out you are only 37 weeks so you still have 4 weeks to progress to have the baby naturally. You could always schedule the c/s at 41 weeks if you decide to then, do not let the doctor push you to do a c/s if that is not what you want.

my 2 cents

I had a scheduled c- section and would highly recommend it... but then again with my first, it was just such a mess that i'm surprised i had a 2nd*( 26 hours in labor, dilated 3 inches in that time , got a fever, baby heart beat dropped... i'm talking messy) that VBAC was never an option for me but then again, i didnt have a problem with it either. The main idea is to have a healthy baby no matter what--- at least that was my thoughts. I got all the big guns in drugs and my daughter was as healthy, and perfect and fat(* 9 pounds 4 ounces) as could be plus I healed sooo much faster. Perhaps not as a natural birth but those can be not so pleasant either. Good luck with whatever choice is made!

It might be best to have c-Section if that is what the doctor wants.Plus this way you know when you are going have her . With having a little one already home it helps to prepare for babysitters for her. But good luck .My three girls are 2 yrs apart now 9,7, and 5 but are very close .Let us know how it goes.
