If you tend to give gift cards around the holidays, you need to be
careful that the cards may not be honored after the holidays.

Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the
cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless
January 1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. (On the
contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankruptcy Planning).

Piercing Pagoda closing all stores

Disney closing 98 stores and will close more after January.

Macys to close 9 stores after January

A little off topic, but....

Always get either a gift receipt or give your receipt with the gift card. I've had 2 instances where the gift card did not work.

1. Several cards were bought by my in laws. Through some confusion, a card that was activated managed to get put back and we received a card not activated. With proof of purchase they were able to track the cards. This was Cracker Barrel and they were awesome at fixing the problem.

2. A card given to us from Perkins was not activated. Because it was given to us from someone not close to us, we had to let it go, even with a call to customer service.

This List Has Popped Up & been spread around this same time the last 2 years! Ugghh!

If only people would verify the validity of emails before mass mailing them to everybody & their brother!!
