| Ant Infestation in Dresser
HELP!! DH opened dresser this morning to find ants all over his t-shirts- I opened my drawer to find the same thing. AARGHH!! I was on the way out to work - I helped load the stuff into the washer. We did not want to spray bug spray in our dresser so we used the vacuum hose to suck them all up out of the drawers. How in the world did this happen? All of the clothes were clean and we've never put food in our dresser. Any ideas on what I can do to keep this from happening again. All I can think is thank God they were not in my underwear drawer which I just pull things out of and put on in the dark. OUCH!! |

We have lots of ant problems here. They come in from the heat and get everywhere. Put some crushed red pepper flakes around to keep them from coming in again. We put some around our doorways outside and it seems to work.

How often do you replenish the red pepper flakes? I am going to get some on my way home from work.

I've also read that corn meal works also and I've used baby powder and that worked.

Every few weeks or so. Or if we get a good rain that blows up onto the porch.

that sucks doesn't it..we;ve been having a battle with ants the past two years off adn on! I found a colony nested in out heater outside..they had some big ol hills built up! and just last week I dug a hole for a bush I was planting and they swarmed!~ I must have the most ants in the neighborhood or something. on a side note..they aren't always looking for sweets either..those suckers swarmed on a french fry ds dropped from his happy meal coming in the house..it was in the hallway by the front door!!!!! i think they just walked right in a little crack by the door or something!! I've been vacuuming like a mad person, keeping the floor free from any little crumbs..with two little ones its soo hard though. plus we sprinkle ant killer around the outside of the house and by the door entrances every once in a while. |

We used cinnamon around our fireplace where they were coming in and that really seemed to work. I would leave your clothes out of the dresser for the time being if that's an option and make sure to get them cleaned out of there.

As I was getting to pot a mum this weekend, I get out my huge bag of Miracle Grow Potting soil (which is very pricey) and find about 1 million ants living in my soil in the bag. What a perfect place for them to live!!! It was out in the garage and I saw ants coming and going but did not think much of it since most of us are battling ants this summer. It was so gross and so cool at the same time. Needless to say I had to go buy more potting soil and had to throw this huge bag out. What a waste of money. And guess what? My bug guy was just here on Wednesday. What a waste! It was crazy there were millions of ants living inside of it. Crazy! |

I always look for where they are coming in and spray the ant killer around the point of entry, inside and out. You would not need to spray the dresser. The same thing happened to us once - we found a bunch of ants marching in the office, and identified the window as the point of entry. For weeks after that, I kept finding ants in the master bathroom (adjacent to office), 1 here, 1 there.. about 2-3 per day. I couldn't figure out why since they were not still coming in; could not figure out where they were coming from because it was too random. One day I realized as I was getting dressed, they had set up camp in my clothes, which were folded on shelves in my closet (adjacent to master bath)! One good load of laundry and that was the end of it. |

The cinnamon thing has worked for us too... we always find them coming in from around a window and in the bathroom. They seem to like wood. I had also found a bag of stuff at Menards that looks like little yellow pebbles that we sprinkled around the outside of the house and that seems to have helped. I don't remember what it was called though.

I tried the cinnamon thing and it worked for us too. They kept crawling across our back patio and would bite my DD's feet when she was walking to the kiddie pool. Put some cinnamon down across the patio and have not seen another one since. I hope you find something quick...that would be weird finding ants in your drawers!!!

I like Terro, it's a sticky clear product you place on a small piece of cardboard and they will flock, eat and take it back. It's easy to find in you home and garden store. Very reasonable in price and you don't need to use a lot. I only have to use about once a year when we have bad rains and they want a dry spot.

If you can identify where they are coming in you may want to run some caulking along the siding (on the outside of the house). DH did this and that really seemed to help.
