| Understand, her butt has its own reputation.
So.. On the radio show we have talked about this a few times. EVERY time I go to the local car wash this song is playing on the radio. Last time Shopz went with me and the cashier literally couldn't STOP singing along to answer our questions. It was silly. This record has sold OVER a million copies, and I'm sure has been all over MTV. Small problem, we didn't understand a SINGLE word of it! Well, after MONTHS of talking to people about this, someone finally sent me a translation! I think you should all read it so you know what the heck your kids are listening to! We are so proud that a local Queens resident has composed such a "Masterpiece" (of s---). Read translation here.. http://www.slangcity.com/songs/oye_mi_canto.htm |

I can honestly say that I've never heard the song & am not currently feeling like I'm missing anything, but it's been quite some time since my car has been washed, so maybe I will have the opportunity to hear it soon! LOL

![]() I am going to have to say that the reason its not in English is obvious. I'll assume it was meant for the group of people mentioned. I guess all I can say is I am thankful that Spanish is not one of the lanuages we speak in my house so I don't have to worry about DS understanding it if he heard it (or others) (not that is is old enough anyway). On that note if he did understand it and I caught him listening to it I would rip his little ears off! |

I agree. Reggaeton is a new type of music. One that very popular. I see nothing offense about the lyrics. I could be worng here, but I get the feeling the previous posters are looking down on the people rather than the song. One even posts I am going to have to say that the reason its not in English is obvious. I'll assume it was meant for the group of people mentioned. what does THAT mean ? As a Hispanic I find that comment offensive. There are much worse songs on the radio today ... songs in ENGLISH. speaking of BUTT songs the lyrics to baby's got back is MUCH more offensive ; *talking* Oh my god Becky, look at her butt It is so big She looks like one of those rap guys girlfriends Who understands those rap guys They only talk to her because she looks like a total prostitute I mean her butt It's just so big I can't believe it's so round It's just out there I mean, it's gross Look, she's just so black *rap* I like big butts and I cannot lie You other brothers can't deny That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist And a round thing in your face You get sprung Wanna pull up front Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed Deep in the jeans she's wearing I'm hooked and I can't stop staring Oh, baby I wanna get with ya And take your picture My homeboys tried to warn me But with that butt you got Me so horney Ooh, all of that smooth skin You say you wanna get in my benz Well use me use me cuz you aint that average groupy I've seen them dancin' The hell with romancin' She's sweat, wet, got it goin like a turbo vette I'm tired of magazines Saying flat butts are the thing Take the average black man and him that She gotta pack much back Fellas (yeah) Fellas(yeah) Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah) Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt Baby got back (LA face with Oakland booty) I like'em round and big And when I'm throwin a gig I just can't help myself I'm actin like an animal Now here's my scandal I wanna get you home And --, double up -- -- I aint talkin bout playboy Cuz silicone parts were made for toys I wannem real thick and juicy So find that juicy double Mixalot's in trouble Beggin for a piece of that bubble So I'm lookin' at rock videos Watchin' these bimbos walkin like hoes You can have them bimbos I'll keep my women like Flo Jo A word to the thick soul sistas I wanna get with ya I won't cus or hit ya But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna -- Til the break of dawn I got it goin on Alot of pimps won't like this song Cuz them punks lie to hit it and quit it But I'd rather stay and play Cuz I'm long and I'm strong And I'm down to get the friction on So ladies (yeah), Ladies (yeah) If you wanna role in my Mercedes (yeah) Then turn around Stick it out Even white boys got to shout Baby got back (LA face with the Oakland booty) Yeah baby When it comes to females Cosmo and got nothin to do with my selection 36-24-36 Only if she's 5'3" So your girlfriend rolls a honda Playin workout tapes by Fonda But Fonda ain't got motor in the back of her Honda My anaconda don't want none unless you've got buns hon You can do side bends or sit-ups, but please don't lose that butt Some brothers wanna play that hard role And tell you that the butt and gold So they toss it and leave it And I pull up quick to retrieve it So cosmo says you're fat Well I aint down with that Cuz your waste is small and your curves are kickin And I'm thinkin bout stickin To the beanpole dames in the magazines You aint it miss thing Give me a sista I can't resist her Red beans and rice didn't miss her Some knucklehead tried to dis Cuz his girls were on my list He had game but he chose to hit 'em And pulled up quick to get with 'em So ladies if the butt is round And you wanna triple X throw down Dial 1-900-mixalot and kick them nasty thoughts Baby got back but who doesn't sing when they hear it ?

i didn't make any comment about it other then i don't think people want their kids listening to that OR baby got back, and either one is fairly innapropriate for a cashier at the car wash to be singing to a customer, none the less on the radio.. if it was a rap song or a heavy metal song with those lyrics, the same thing would apply. i think the other point here is that since of us on this board are not bilingual, it's good for parents to know what their kids are singing in the car, that's all. hey, i sing along to anything but i'm almost 30 and act like an idiot in public. parents should be more informed and responsible then a talk show host. |

TIME OUT! heavenly, I don't think anyone meant anything against hispanics or anyone else, just that the lyrics were inappropriate for kids/workplaces/etc., I'm sure you know this is one of the least offending/most friendly boards around, you've been here long enough. HH, I think heavenly's point was just what you said, we don't know "what" people on the board are & we need to try to watch what we say as it can be misinterpreted - we've talked about that misinterpretation before - came up in some other thread if I recall. personally, I try to avoid listening to songs like that all together, not just with my kids...but not everyone likes the music I listen to either. And if anyone wants to fuss at me for saying what I did, go ahead. |

I remember when Olivia Newton John came out with the song "Physical". My Mom for the first time EVER banned a song in our house. To this day we tease her about it and every once in awhile me and my sister's will sing it at the top of our lungs just to tease her. :roll2: I don't find the Butt Slap song offensive, I find it stupid and ignorant - but that's just my opinoun. I think the songwriter is a nimrod, not his race or his religion or his favorite brand of boxers... |

Just got an email that NORE will be playing at Joe's Pub - an obscenely upscale nightclub here in New York. Aside from the fact that tickets are clearly "CASH ONLY" according to the email (Joe's Pub is part of The Public who puts on Shakespear in the Park - so they of course always sell advance tickets).. Here's the bio.. BTW - This is a "HOT DEAL" since ladies are FREE before Midnight. Something I don't think has ever been offered at the Public before! 10/9 - N.O.R.E. NYC Hip Hop Legend N.O.R.E. SUN. OCT. 9 11:00pm N.O.R.E. (formerly known as Noreaga, born Victor Santiago) is an American rapper and member of the hip hop group C-N-N (formerly known as "Capone-N-Noreaga"). N.O.R.E. stands for "N***az On (the) Run Eatin'". Half African American and half Puerto Rican, N.O.R.E. is currently signed to Def Jam Records via Roc-A-Fella Records, and has released reggaeton records in addition to his traditional hip hop fare. Featured in the hit song 'Oye mi Canto' with Nina Sky. Queens rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga enjoyed massive street credibility with the release of their debut album, The War Report, which earned them a devoted following in the hardcore rap world. Capone (born Kiam Holley) and Noreaga (born Victor Santiago) grew up in the projects of Queensbridge and LeFrak City, respectively, and endured rough childhoods and multiple run-ins with the law. They met in 1992 while serving kitchen duty together at Collins Correctional Facility in New York, and became friends; upon their release, they decided to team up as rappers, taking their performing names from two legendary gangsters. In 1996, they signed with Penalty Records; their first release was the single "Illegal Life," and they next teamed up with Mobb Deep for "L.A., L.A.," another salvo in the East Coast/West Coast feud. Before their debut album was completed, Capone was sent back to prison for violating his parole on a weapons possession charge. Noreaga finished The War Report on his own, and it was a substantial underground success upon its release in 1997, making the R&B Top Five and going gold. With Capone incarcerated, the duo's thugged-out image rang true, and the singles "Closer" and "T.O.N.Y. (Top of New York)" saw some action on the rap charts. Noreaga capitalized on the album by starting a solo career, but remained loyal to Capone, visiting his friend often and giving Capone executive producer credits on the two popular solo albums (N.O.R.E. and Melvin Flynt -- Da Hustler) he recorded over 1998-1999. Capone was released from prison in early 1999, and the two immediately reteamed for the much-anticipated The Reunion, which was released in 2000 on Tommy Boy. Dissatisfied with the promotion, Capone-N-Noreaga asked to be released from their contract, and signed with Def Jam in 2001. Later that year, Capone ran into further trouble with the law; he was charged with assault following a nightclub brawl involving gunfire in Queens, but the charge was dropped due to lack of evidence. Not long after the incident, he was arrested at a Greensboro, NC, airport for possession of marijuana, but avoided jail time. Noreaga released his third solo album, God's Favorite, in 2002, and Capone was reportedly working on his own solo debut at the same time. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide CASH AT DOOR ONLY - Ladies FREE before Midnight, $10 after / Guys $15 all night |

Okay, my first reaction to this is, "You couldn't pay me $10 to go there." After carefully thinking it over, I've upped it to $100....I really feel old. Quote:

I myself am hispanic and I don't feel offended by comments like "what does that mean" the lyric was in Spanish, the poster didn't speak Spanish so what's the problem. Think anyone here banned their kids from listening to Ricky Martin's "shake your bon bon because he was hispanic?" No because that's not offense, at least to me, and I am ok with my 3 year old saying shake your bon bon/butt, but I am not ok with him saying "when I bone I slap culo" or "that butt you got makes me so horny" Has nothing to do with race and everything to do with lyrics.

| Difference in musical taste
I'm cracking up reading all these replys. It's amazing the differences we all have in musical taste, what we think is and isn't appropriate for our children. Personally I get a kick out of some of the music...a lot of the songs have great beats, terrific dance music. If you don't like the lyrics you can tune that part out...or you can do what we do and just burn your own and dub over it so all you have is the MUSIC and not Lyrics. I married a Brazilian who has an extremely diverse taste in a lot of things, music included...he has opened my mind up to a lot of new things, some I still don't like...but it's like food....you tell your kids to try one bite even if they say they don't like it just because it's green or something similar you want them to try it anyway so they can learn to like new things.I'm in my chair now. And as conservative as I am...I still find it amusing when My brother would tell his daughter to "shake your money maker" whenever she would start dancing (I think she was around 18mo...maybe 2 at this time.) although my mom would about it.Anyway, that's just my two cents...i'm enjoying reading all the posts and seeing what everyone has to say about stuff. |
