My DH just had a home security system installed in our home last week. I never really felt the need for one, but apparently he did. We do not live in a bad neighborhood, but we do have two small children I worry about at night. Their room is downstairs and we are upstairs, but I always have the baby monitor on.

So who has an alarm system and why?

Yes, we have ADT home monitoring and we have never needed it, but man has it brought peace of mind. My DH has had to go out of the country and once for 2 weeks straight...I am definitely glad to have it.

By the way, it doesn't matter that you don't live in a bad neighborhood...Do you think thieves only want to rob poor people in bad neighborhoods??? NOPE, they're coming for the places they think have nicer stuff in it.

PS if I am sick or taking a shower to go somewhere I set the alarm so I know nobody went outside...so it's not just for keeping bad guys out...it can be for making sure the good guys are in

Yep, we have one. DH had it installed before he left for Iraq. We had just built our house and we live in the country. He didn't want to leave DD and I without some sort of extra precautions. We've never needed it, but it definitely helps us to feel secure.

I do. Both of my boys are autistic and like to run. I worry a lot at night because my DS wakes up about 5-10 times and I don't want him going outside and getting hurt or lost. This way, I would be able to hear him if he opens the door. Just in case you are wondering how I would hear him while I am sleeping, I don't sleep soundly at all. I seem to wake up when I hear him up. We use it for this purpose only. It's nice to have though.

The house already had one when we purchased it and we kept up with having it monitored. I feel alot safer having one.

We have one. Saves us on insurance and makes me feel safe.

We have ADT and use it all the time. We do not live in a bad neighborhood either but it is good to have the security. Plus like TigerGirl we are discounted on insurance.

There was a system already installed in our house when we bought it and we just kept up with monitoring. I'm not really sure how much good it will do us though in the event of an actual break in. We test it every month like you're supposed to and ADT will always tell us everything is working fine and they have us on their system but when our dog sitter and then my mother accidentally set it off a few times ADT never called and police never arrived. A bit frustrating really. I do like that I can tell when doors or windows have been opened. That does give me some peace of mind.

I always said it the bad ppl want to get into my home they are going to find a way to get in, with or without a security system. But I never thought about keeping kids IN like superk! My kids are all grown up, this is why I never thought about it. As for insurance it would only save us 5%, we have 4 dogs, a pitbull (she's our biggest baby), lab, and 2 mini pinschers. These are our security systems.

We dont have one, but I think that we are getting one.. Our locked truck was broken into around fathers day, it was even locked and parked in the yard... They took every tool that my husband had ever owned... So... He has been a bit paranoid about people stealing and breaking in and hurting me... We just have to come up with the money to get it.. For now we have two dogs who bark at a bug in the floor and a pistol in the closet.... We are safe for a while I suppose.
