A potty trainer who doesn't want to...

I have a 4 yr old who doesn't want to get ready for Kindergarten. I think??? I have tried everything, but she can't seem to grasp the importance. I probably have been a little too permissive in the past, and am not being mean nor forceful. She used to withhold it, too, so I try to be respectful. Any suggestions out there?

Jackie

Here's an idea that worked on my son at that age. Now that the weather is warm outside it's easier to potty a child. One thing I do advise is to stay at home and not go anywhere while you potty train her.
this is what I did as follows: Put on some old light comfortable summer shorts with out any underwear underneath the shorts. Or you can let her run around your house bare naked until she has to use the potty or have an accident. When she has a few accidents run down her shorts she'll want to learn to go potty sooner than you think. This freaked my son out when it happened to him. He decided he didn't like that feeling running down his shorts. I also rewarded my son with stickers and when got a certain amount we would go to the dollar tree for his reward. Good luck in your Potty Training!

um... I think your saying that your 4 yr old knows how to use the potty but they don't always do so. Definitly don't be mean about it, sounds like your child is very sensitive. If this is true (it is in my case) go with emotions... kinda like bi-polar emotions... when she use's the potty like she should verbally and emotionally show/tell her how happy and proud of her you are, but when she has a mistake be sad (not crying sad,,, but sad) and ask what happend and why she didn't make it. Good luck

I have learned, the hard way, that if a child is showing ay signs of not being ready to start school, don't send them, wait a year. If she is not ready in any way, it will hurt her later. I started my youngest at 4 and now she is behind and has always been emotionally inmature. The potty training will work it's self out when she is ready.

I had a hard time with my son still at age 4 not wanting to potty train. He was scheduled to go to preschool a year late this year but school wouldn't accept him. Luckily another church preschool said they would take him and my son did get potty trained seeing the other children go potty at scheudled time. He know understands the urge to go and has only wet the bed once in the past 6 months.

My daughter got really worked up about pretty panties. I let her choose whatever character or fun thing she wanted on them, then hunted them down for her. Hello Kitty was a tough one! She loved those panties so much, she would run for the potty rather than have an accident and soil her pretty panties. Once she decided, we were done. No more wet nights or days, occasional accident but that's only normal.

Talk it out with her, girls are so mature, they'll suddenly get it and once their mind is made up it's a lot easier!

Good luck!

Dollar Store treats worked wonders for my son, but he was a completely different story, more like a nightmare!
