My DS will be 2 in May. Janunary we had found out that we were expecting another baby. I was still breastfeeding him, so I had made the decsion to stop. It was hard to stop but thought it would be better for my body. My son now always has his hands in my shirt grabbing his tattat as he says. is this normal and how long should this last?

Everyone is different but I would have thought he would have moved to a sippy cup by at least age one. You could maybe take him on a shopping trip and buy him a special cup. Hopefully someone can help. |

I quit nursing my DD at 14 months and she had her hands down my shirt for several months after that. It might take your DS longer to stop since he is older. Look at it this way - you were his source of food and comfort. It may take a while for him to stop being grabby. When I would hold my DD, I also held a stuffed puppy in her arms. That way she got used to holding it, and it got my scent on it. Now she's 3, and she sleeps with her puppy every night. HTH! And congrats on the new baby!

it is great that you were able to bf so long, I had to stop at eighteen months for baby #2, otherwise I would have gone at least until age two, my little girl was so healthy during that period of time. this is very normal, you just need to be firm about telling him no, and not make a big deal about it or make him feel bad about what he is doing

I try not to make him feel bad about it, at home its not that big of a deal. But when your at the store checking out or talking with a man stocker etc and he has his little hands down my shirt there has been a few lets say accidents

| you were his source of food and comfort. It may take a while for him to stop being grabby. Yep. If you took away his plate at dinner and he was still hungry, he'd be grabbing for that too. It's perfectly normal. Whenever he does it, try keeping a sippy cup nearby to hand him. That way he'll associate the sippy for "food/drink" and eventually will leave the tattats alone. ![]() My sister BF my niece until she was almost 3, I think (she's now 23). Niece would get upset and yell "I. WANT. MY. NINNIES!!!" (that's what she called them) when they were out somewhere where she couldn't BF. |

You know, it's not really that big of a deal that he still wants to BF, or touch your breast. He is just a baby, and he doesn't look at your breast as sexual objects. I think he is doing fine. You might remind him that those are mommies, and move his hands away if it is bothering you. You just have to be consistent. Congrats on BFing him so long. I was only able to BF for 5 months and it broke my heart to have to stop, but Aunt Flow stole my supply. ![]() |

He most likely does see it as a source of comfort. My DD has a blankie she can't seem to live without because it is a source of comfort. |

I applaud you for BF for so long. If we have a second child, I hope I do better than I did with our first.

I stopped BFing DS at 10 months (supply all but diminished when I went back to work even though I pumped). DS is 2 1/2 and STILL puts his hands down my shirt, especially when he's uncomfortable or tired. I don't think it has much to do with the "food" aspect as it does comfort. I don't make a big deal about it either, but if we're in public I just move his hands away or reposition him.
