Save on Baby Food!

Once your little one is ready to move onto solids, here is a way to save some green when going to the store.

Most people will usually start their baby with rice cereal mixed with formula or breastmilk. Besides looking in the Sunday paper for coupons for the cereal, sign up for coupons and special offers from all the different baby food companies. Using the principle of matching your coupons with a sale, stock up on your baby cereal when you can get the best price! Make sure to sign for as many as you can, because even if a baby cereal (for example, an organic cereal) is very expensive, there will always be a sale for it and sometimes you can find it on clearance or on special. Here are some websites to get you started:

Remember for printable coupons that you can print them twice. The more computers you have, the better!

You can also write to baby food companies to request coupons, just like you can for the formula.

If you shop for baby food at discount stores, you will get a better price than at a regular retail store, but be careful to check for expiration dates! These stores will receive food that is close to the date and that is why they are able to sell it for a better price.

Once your baby is ready to start with different solids, aka pureed fruits and veggies, here is where you can save the most money. Buying the jarred baby food is convenient and is good for travelling, so use your coupons for that when you can. It is always good to have a stockpile. But if you have the time (and it doesn't take much at all) make your baby's food! You will save bundles and bundles!! I have found some really good websites with great recipes. Here is my fav:

You need a steamer, a blender or food processor, and you are good to go! Use ice cube trays to store your baby food and you will have the perfect amount every time with no waste!

There is something I have been really wanting from Williams Sonoma, very pricey, but man I just want it!! Such a great time saver! Check this out:

Such convenience!!! Absolutely not necessary for baby food making, but just a cool thing anyhow. I bet I could get one on Ebay.

When I fed my babies jarred food and rice cereal, I mixed the fruits or veggies into the cereal, making sure not to contaminate the jar. So I was able to go through about two jars a day without ever wasting any.

As far as meal time cleanup is concerned, skip the paper towels and wipes! They are wasteful and expensive when you have to use them three times a day. I kept a pile of clean cloths next to Mena and Bobby's high chair, and had another closed container next to it that I tossed them into after I had used them. Since I have to do laundry every two days anyhow, it worked out really well.

Remember to look out for those store coupons and rewards that you can combine with your manufacturer coupons!
