Drving in the passenger seat

I have taken my DD out several times now and she has gotten better. Her famous words are ... "There is so much to remember".
I was getting tired of driving the same corners and the same stop signs, so I had her take a different road. This road is busier than our streets in our neighborhood so I put on the flashers to warn people that may be behind us to slow down. DD was able to make it up to 25 MPH though, so I was impressed.
We were coming up to a stop sign and I told her to take a left up ahead. Apparently she didn't care about the stop sign, just that her turn would be smooth. Ooops. I had to scream stop and I put my foot up on the dash (my pretend break peddle).
She stopped in time and then turned left. I wasn't mad as she thought I would be. I just started to laugh and it put a smile on her face, knowing that I wasn't upset.
We ended up going around a quieter area and then back on the road. We made it home safe and sound after a few more turns and she knew how to get home!

I think it is awesome that you were able to laugh and put your DD at ease. This brings back memories of when my younger brother was learning to drive and I was the one in the passenger seat -- only he usually forgot to slow down to make his turns! My DH says that his definition of Fear is seeing the deer by the side of the road while being in the passenger seat when your DS/DD is driving -- and knowing that DS/DD doesn't see the deer. Everyone survived. Keep on doing an awesome job!Posted 06-29-2009 at 08:22 AM by qpdoll
