Notes from a mid-life wife and mother who likes running, knitting, cows, piano, and last but not least, coupons!
1/28/10 - True Story
I know what kind of day I'm going to have when this happens: I pick up the blowdryer to dry my hair, and a silverfish blows out of it onto my head! I brush him off, and the little guy is still moving! I caught him, crawling across the bathroom floor.
Actually, that was the only bad part to my day. (Nowhere to go but UP from there?)
I got my first freelance assignment, setting up some payroll benefits for a corporate customer, in their accounting system. I may be able to start/complete this tomorrow. I'm very excited!
I can't speak right now - laryngitis. I've never had it come on so quickly. A tickle in my throat last night turned into a whisper of a voice in less than 24 hours. What causes that? And why do I get it so often? (about 8 times a year, I think)
Luckily, my coupon class which was supposed to take place this evening was cancelled yesterday. My boys' preschool, where I was planning to hold the class, decided no one wanted to stay and lock up. They told me, 24 hours before my class, since none of their teachers decided to attend, I could no longer hold the class there. (This after I'd invited my neighbors, another school full of teachers, Target employees, Publix employees, and a few Target shoppers that I don't know.) So I put a sign-up sheet on the front door announcing the cancellation and asking for contact info from anyone who wants me to reschedule.
The administrator-lady said they might ask me to do it another time. My answer to that is, "OK, but your chance for a FREE class just passed." I'm annoyed because I bought prizes for a game, travelled all over town asking 10 different stores their coupon policies, spent about 10 hours organizing my info, printing multi-page handouts, and practicing my presentation.
I'm surprised it has been so difficult to do something nice for other people! Really, they were doing me no favors... I was trying to help them out!
I don't know if I want to see a full list of names or a blank list when I get there in the morning!

I was mad at first, and nervous about having tons of people show up to find nothing. Then I lost my voice, and figured, "Everything happens for a reason."
The day after the class, the sign-up sheet I left on the door was completely blank. So I guess everyone who asks me about saving money with coupons was not that interested, or at least not motivated to take actions to improve their own situations. Oh, well. I guess it is another one of life's lessons: I can't help others if they are not willing to help themselves.
Best regards,
