Hi Big Y shoppers,

I thought it would be nice to know a little bit more about AFCers who shop at Big Y.

So, let us know where you are from and which Big Y stores you shop at. What is your opinion of Big Y? What do you generally buy there? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'll start. I live in Fairfield County, CT and shop at the Stratford CT and Monroe CT stores. I love Big Y for their sales. They usually make it worth it to shop there even though Big Y doesn't double like the other grocery stores here do. Meats and fish are often a good deal, especially B1G2. The Big Y's I shop at are also very nice, clean, good customer service stores. Much better than the competition!

I, too, live in Fairfield County, CT. I shop at the Newtown and Bethel stores. I shop there because they are the closest supermarkets to my home. I prefer the Bethel store over the Newtown because they have more items to choose from. I like the B1G2 sales and the B2G3 sales.

I live in MA and shop the Palmer and Wilbraham stores. I love their BOGO sales and the "coins". The stores are very clean and the employees are very courteous and knowlegable. I also like that the company has many programs to benefit children and schools such as Homework Helpline and donating computers and other equipment to schools in their market area. Seems like a nice company.

I live in MA and shop at the South Hadley and Chicopee stores.

I love Big Y! I have several family members who work for them and worked for them myself in high school. They are great to their employees and try to do a lot for the community as well.

I do all of my shopping there and always have. I will oftentimes wait for meat to be B1G1/B1G2 and then I stock up!

I shop at the Monroe ,CT Big Y. The store is very clean and the employees are always very helpful. It bugs me terribly that they don't double coupons anymore so I occassionally head over to Shoprite in Derby.

The stockup sales are great but sometimes I wish I could just get a good price on 1. They are good about letting coupons through even if b1g1 sale items. They are the nearest store to my house.

You shop in palmer? Small world I used to live in Palmer and thorndike so that is where I would shop. Mom and sister still shop at this store. Help my mom out next time you see her LOL...

I love Big Y coins. I still have a silver from 5 years ago. I probably should give it to my mom...

Ahernandez, what a coincidence! Yes I shop the Palmer store but lately have been shopping more in the new Wilbraham store that opened in June. The coins don't expire so maybe you can use that silver next time you're out this way!

I live in Trumbull CT and shop at Stratford and Monroe stores. I like them for their sales and produce. They are higher priced than some of the other grocery stores in the area, so I have to admit they are not the only store I shop at.

I live and shop at the Big Y occasionally in North Haven, CT. I'm still trying to get this couponing thing down. I have gone into the new Big Y on Rte 80 in North Branford. It is GORGEOUS!!!

I too shop at the Big Ys in Plainfield and Norwich . Big Y used to be my #1 store but once they got rid of their double coupons I moved on. I still go there for their B1G2F sales and such but don't do the bulk of my shopping there like I used to. I also moved and am a bit further so that makes a difference also.

I'm new to Big Y (and AFC) so I just started shopping at one of the Worcester MA stores. Some of their prices are a bit higher than some of the other stores I go to, but when they have a deal its usually a pretty good one!

I live in CT and shop at the Tolland, Ellington, or East Windsor stores...depending on which one will be on my way home.

I mostly shop at Shaws because they have the best produce in my area. I venture to Big Y when there are good sales that I can match up with qs ($1 or more qs though...hate to waste a good doubler).

I did pick up one of those freezers they advertised for $99.99 a couple of weeks ago though...awesome deal, could only find a similar one for $190...and the cute Grocery Manager helped me bring it home so it all worked out well.

So nice to hear from everyone, welcome to the Big Y forum! And fern, glad to know that delivery worked out -- when you had said he offered, I thought it was either super friendly or sort of creepy! Happy to hear it was just super friendly.

Oh! And for those who are new to AFC -- first of all welcome -- second, please go around the site and do posts. I can't remember exactly how many you need to be able to pm, but to be safe I'd say get your post count above 20. Then when I pm you for your address to send the coins to you, you can pm me back!

I live in Norwood, MA, and shop at the Walpole Big Y. Produce is so much nicer than other local stores, and I love the BOGO and BOGT offers.

My husband and I are trying to do everything we can in these tough economic times to support our local food pantry, and we have bought canned goods in large quantities (up to 50 at a time) from Big Y because of the prices.

My only problem is that I have a huge stack of silver coins and can't find anything to spend them on.

Hi everyone, I shop at the Stratford store and once in a while I'll hit Newtown or Bethel. My parents do most all of their shopping in Newtown. My Dad says they have the best fish department.

I have to be honest I do most of my shopping at Shaws because I drive right by it four times a day. I'm not kidding...

DirtCheap, I'm with you! We probably have passed each other in the aisles at the Stratford store. I live right around the corner. I also shop at Shaws a lot. It's so funny how in this area there are SO many grocery stores. I doubt any frugal person is loyal to one store -- it's where are the best sales this week!

Thanks! Yeah, he even helped me take it out of the box and we both carried it down into my basement! So yeah, extra super friendly...no wedding ring, but I was too shy to ask any questions. Ah well.

I live in Wilbraham MA and usually shop at the new Boston Road store. I also love Fresh Acres, I just wish they had sales there!! I used to just to go Stop and Shop, but I received $15 off $50 coupons in the mail a few months ago and I was SOOOO impressed with the new store! I go there almost exclusively now. The sales can't be beat!

Hi lindsay, I love the new Wilbraham store too, I use to shop Palmer but this one has so much more. I tend to shop Fresh Acres more during the spring and summer. The variety is amazing.
