Question Help! I need tips on sending formula/diapers to FL

My brother & sister in law are having a pretty tough time in FL and I am stuck in OHIO and can't help them as much as I could if they were close. I know the diapers & formula for their 9 month old daughter are a big strain on their budget and I want to try & get some of this stuff to them but the shipping costs to send it from Columbus are just outrageous.

Does anyone have ideas on how to do this and get the most bang for my buck? Should I buy the stuff & ship UPS? Should I go to Babies R Us or Target & have it shipped to them directly? Are there any promo codes or sales out there that I can take advantage of?

Any suggestions? Thank you all so much ~ I know the AFC community can give me some great ideas.

Christina

Diapers.com usually has free shipping over $49, and if you are a new customer there are usually $10 off codes. That way you could ship directly to them.

I was going to suggest Diapers.com also, but I wanted to mention that they do accept manufactuer's coupons. From what I've read, all you have to do is mail them in. I've never done this personally because I use cloth and breastfeed but maybe somebody else here has done that and can tell you how long of a process it would be for them to credit the coupons to your account. Hope this helps!

Oh, I just remembered...a couple of weeks ago I shipped a friend of mine in Texas a box of 4 jumbo size packs of Huggies (I think the smallest packages they make) in one box and it was roughly $25 UPS. I live in Alabama and chose the most economical options available. Although the diapers were nearly free for me (coupons and the like) the shipping definately made up for it! Good luck!

You could buy the items @ BRU and have them picked up at their nearest store in FL.

The US Postal service has those priority mail flat rate boxes. OR

Since shipping is so much what about sending them gift cards and q's?

I can confirm anidic_83's suggestion. I sell qs on eBay and one of the people who purchased the qs from me had me send them directly to diapers.com instead of to her (she provided me her diapers.com account number) and the qs were credited to her account. I thought that was awesome!

Depending on where they shop what's close.... I know for instance there are a lot of target q and manu q's... matching these up you are looking at about $6 for a jumbo pack (depending on the size... my dd wears a 4 so thats only 27 diapers). But could you just send them the q's and maybe a giftcard and have them go get them??? Just thinking you could give them MORE by not having to ship it... Just a thought!

I was just wondering where in Florida they live? I'm in Gainesville. I'm always looking for a good deal on baby stuff(even though DD is 3.5 y/o) I have tons of prego friends! I'd like to share some local deals if they live near me....

You could ship by Fedex ground. In my experience shipping heavy/larger packages, it is usually cheaper than UPS, though I think that's true for packages I send because the main fedex hub is close by.

If your package was 30 lbs and measured 20" x 20" x 20" going from OH to FL would cost approximately

$30 by fedex ground.
$22 through the post office (parcel post)
$30 by ups

If the formula is liquid, be sure to check the regulations. Some things you have to fill out extra forms and write on the packages so that the shipper knows there's liquid inside.
