| Cub Foods vs. Rainbow
Which store is better deal wise?? We are going to be down in the cities a week from now and I want to do our grocery shopping for our vacation there (cheaper than here hopefully). In your opinion which store will be better for coupons and deals??

Cub's regular prices are cheaper. I go to Rainbow on Weds. when they have double coupns. I buy the deals in their ad, plus items that will be nearly free once coupons are doubled (only up to 5) If you are able to go to both, I would buy their best deal items from their ads Also - do you have Aldi? If not, it would definitely be worth a try! Very good prices |

I don't have either store here. Only have Walmart, Super One Foods, and Hugo's. Super One and Hugos are pretty costly, IMO and do not double q's or take IP's. We are heading down to Minneapolis, MN area to pick up our travel trailer for vacation and I wanted to get our groceries then from stores down there to save on the cost of food. |

I can get the cities newspapers up here with their ads for Cubs and Rainbow so I can plan ahead of time.

It's definitely worth shopping their ads. I have both stores across the street from each other about 3 miles from my house. Many weeks I compare their ads and go to which one has more items that I would buy. If I only could go to one, though I would choose Cub because their regular prices on the items I buy are cheaper. |

I would say that Cub is cheaper than Rainbow and tends to have more items on sale. But if you can shop both, then you will come out ahead. Where in the cities are you headed exactly?

We are picking up the trailer here--Coates/Rosemount Minnesota just a short drive from St. Paul and Minneapolis. Exit County Rd 46 from Hwy 52 at Pioneer RV. We will probably drive the 6 hrs down next tues and pick it up Wed. not sure where we will stay that Tues. night though. Haven't made any plans in stone yet.

I found a rainbow and cub foods very close to where we are piking up the camper. I will try and plan for both. Hopefully save some money while on vacation.

I'd come down and meet up with you, but won't be in town on Tuesday. Will try to make sure that we point out the deals for that week for you.

Being that you will be down on a Wed. Iwould definitely shop Rainbow on Wed wo get the double coupons. Also - There is an Aldi in Rosemount. Defintely worth a visit. Check out the Aldi forum for more info. And - when comapring Cub & Rainbow receipts it can be a little tricky looking at the amount saved. Rainbow figures sale prices and coupons to show the amount saved at the bottom. Cub just takes into account coupons when figuring the % saved at the bottom. But if you mainly bought sale items, your % saved is actually much higher than that. |

Motel 6 is a very inexpensive place to stay if you just need a room for the night. My DH and I stayed at one for $39.00 a night. If you are looking for ideas of where to stay cheap.

Don't forget with Rainbow on double days, that the reg price counts towards the $25 mark to start to double the coupons. Example... Cereal reg price is $3 a box and is on sale for $2. You would need to buy 9 boxes to get you to $27 at reg price but it will only cost you $18 sale price. Then give them 4 $1/2 coupons and another $$ off 1 coupon so they will all double. Your final price for 9 boxes of cereal would be under $10 depending on what your $$ off of 1 coupon is.
