Ok I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this I hope so . Our house does not have central air so we run a window unit and block off half the house. Anyhoo it quit on us and now we have to buy a new one. Anyone know where I can get one cheap? I would really like to have an energy saving one not sure if all the new ones come with that option or not? I tried searching on here but couldnt find anything? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I have 2 elderly great aunts who live in a house cooled by 2 window units like you. Last year one went out so me and DH shopped around for them and the best deal we could find without waiting was at Sam's. They got the biggest unit they sell in case the back unit went out the from unit could compensate. Well, you guessed it next week DH is changing out that back unit!

Once again we shopped around and found that Sam's is still a good deal. Hope you have luck finding what you need.

The nearest sams is an hour away so I will look when we go . We are supposed to be going in a couple of days. I hope it doesnt get to hot I hate sleeping in the heat it sucks.

Do you have fans? Sometimes the air doesn't seem quite as hot when it's moving,

Yeah we have 2 ceiling fans and 2 floor fans all on high and its still hot. I thought the same thing well lets just turn the fans on high and it will be cool . I think its the humidity something.

I feel ya! DH and I bought our first house last year and nearly fainted when we got the estimate to have c/a put in. (FIL said it would be around 1000 - 1500 TOPS -- uh yeah try 2600). so we bought two window units, one for each side of the house till we have enough $$ to put the c/a in. anyway, we got really nice LG models from Home Depot. I think they are 10000 BTU (which is supposedly good according to DH). they were 199 each. They are energy-star rated (this is v. important to me) and have an "energy saver" mode. also, no need to keep this thing running during the day if you're not home - it cools everything FAST, esp if you keep fans to move the cool air around.

I know I've ssen them as cheap as $99 (walmart, big lots advertisements I THINK) and I remember Home Depot had one for right around $100...but they were much smaller models and honestly, sometimes you get what you pay for. we expect these to last us for a while.

sometimes HD let's you sign up for their credit card for another 10% off. just make sure to pay it off before any interest accrues, of course, or its kinda pointless.

Yeah we do that like at jcpenny they always give you a discount for using there card to pay and we just pay it off so we dont have to pay interest .

Today in the oklahoman they had a huge page where this portable ac unit..it's on wheels not only does it use 93% less energy it cost 280 bucks I know kinda pricey..But you get a 50 gas card. Plus it's supposed to work like a charm. DARNIT I FORGET THE NAME OF IT!!! If I remember it I will post it,
