Question about coupon

I was trying to use a $2 off 2 coupon on some nuts, which were on sale for $1.00 each. (Really small trial size) So pay $2, and then the coupon comes off, making them free.

The cashier said I wasn't allowed to use it because he argued that the $2 can't be used on the product that was $1.00 and trial sizes can't be included. I calmly stated that the coupon didn't address that, but he refused to take it.

How would do you go about explaining the coupon when the items are free or low OOP?

It really depends on what store I am at and what their coupon policy states. Many employees are not trained on coupon policies. So many times I print out the policy and have it with me. HTH

Probably not what you wanted to hear...

All stores have the right to refuse any coupon and it is clearly in each and every coupon policy out there.

Part of being a successful couponer is learning the stores you shop. So gather (and know) the policy, ask questions of cashiers and managers on how they interpret their policy, and ask to speak with managers any time there is an issue.

Where I'm at... some stores do overage, some apply overage only to rest of transaction, some reduce Qs to make item free, some do not accept any Q whose value exceeds the item price or makes the item free.
