packing materials

Anybody know about a good deal on moving materials... i.e. boxes, packing materials, tape?

Check out www.craigslist.com (at least I think that is the url). Plus in my state we have a site from Yahoo that is called "freecycle". They are always giving away boxes for moving.

Last...for the boxes, talk to your grocery store.

Ditto on KM's suggestions, but I would also hang on to Sunday's paper for packing, and use ECB's to get your packing tape!!!

Thank you for all the help.
I was saving all my Sunday papers and boxes because we knew this moving thing was comming.. but it's been "comming" for months and months. So, last weekend, we cleaned out the garage and got rid of the boxes and papers and yesterday we get notice that we have a week to move.

Yeah!!! I love the military.
I had thought maybe I'd actually go out and buy the stuff (I know, bad bad me) just to minimize the stress of moving in such a short time.

You can come pick up all this stuff ... the only downside is that your stuff is gonna all smell like "fresh scent"!

Moving/Packing Supplies @ OfficeDepot etc

By any chance, did you get in on the OfficeDepot promo, where registers were printing $10/$10 coupons on Friday the 13th of October: "buy 20c pen, get $10 cpn".

If you can get your hands on some or if you have these $10/$10 coups, you could get a lot of packing materials from any of the office supply stores (OfficeDepot, OfficeMax, Staples all take these cps)

Moving and the Military

Is there any special reason why you'd want to purchase moving supplies?

Does not the military pay for moving expences of those on active duty, under orders?

There are some military-designated moving companies (ask @ your base).
You call to schedule a pick up time. They send a truck, complete with boxes, packing tape and some guys. You can walk around sipping a cool beverage of choice, while ordering the crew around, providing instructions on what goes where. Basically, they pack & tape everything up for you, you don't have to lift a finger.
