My daughter is a good mom. She graduated from high school 9 months pregnant. She will go to college after her 2nd baby is born. In the meantime. she is living in my apartment. I moved back in with my husband whom I was split up with so that she could have a place to live. she watches my 8 year old so that almost pays for the rent. She was working at qudoba but it was difficult for her to keep up and it was impossible for her to lift the trash. they didn't care. One day her daycare person could not babysit. My daughter has no phone. so she took her son to work to tell them she was not going to be in today because she had no one to watch her child. They fired her. They said since she showed up 45 min late that that was a no call no show. Well she was there just not able to work. So the system cut her off of her assistance. She lost her apartment. that is why I moved out and let her move in. The state said she could not reapply for 3 month. Now she is 7 months pregnant. She is normally a very tiny girl. But since she is so shor ( Just barley 5 feet) she looks like she is already 9 months. The state said she has to complete the jet program before they will help. She can not look for a apartment until she has income and another thing is her starter is out so her car is down. She just started the jet program last week. I am completly for the program. It requires people to be responsible. but when you are 7 months pregnant how are you going to get a job then take at least 4-6 weeks off to heal. What place is going to do that? Currently I have her take me to work then I let her drive to the Jet program and then go and drive around and put in 6 application a day. Now I don't make very much money at all. I don't know what I can do to help her this week because now I have no gas money. This is putting my job on the line. I have a eight year old that has severe heart issues and I must keep my insurance because we go to Cleveland Clinic. I can not go on state aid ( I don't want to in the first place) but my biggest fear is that I would lose my insurance and I would not beable to take my son to thecleveland Clinic. We would be forced to go to University of Michigan where my son had his first open heart surgery and it was a failure. Now back to my daughter. What can she do? She is a smart girl who just got in challenging circumstance. How can she go to this program and look for a job when no one is going to hire her? How is she going to get there when her car is not running. any ideas welcome. Rhonda |

Well, somewhere WILL hire here.... I know that it might not be first choice and perhaps minimum wage, but there is a job that is bound to need help. Check Mc Donald's, local thrift stores, goodwill... All those. Also, getting to work, I would have to say take a bus, although its not the best choice, but it will get you there when you need it.... Also, why isn't your daughter getting support for the babies dad? She should have him pay child support... Also, I would advise birth control, so that she doesn't get pregnant again anytime soon, till she is back on her feet. Hope things work out for you!!! Prayers are with you.

Does she get WIC? Food Stamps? Section 8? Those are all things that we looked into applying for when I had my first daughter when my husband was working a pay almost nothing job at a car dealership and I was still a full time student (and I had the same issue, no one wanted to hire a woman visibly pregnant). With no or little income, however, she should most definately qualify for WIC which provides food assistance for pregnant/nursing women and children. Heck *I* still qualified for it with 3 kids and my husband making about $30k a year. Section 8 assists with paying rent. Food stamps are something she would likely qualify for with her income as well for both her and her children. If she's not married, they won't take in the father's income in consideration (or yours if you don't claim her on your taxes as a dependent). Every little bit helps!

I would also check out any local community organizations in your area such as the Human Development Corporation, Red Cross, United Way and Birth Right...there are a lot of resources out there that are available to help women in situations just like your daughter's. These places have all kinds of programs to help with housing costs, living expenses and job opportunities or school training. I also know that the Salvation Army has a program that helps people with low incomes get vehicles to get to work or job training programs so check those out too...also check with your local churches and see what kind of assistance they can provide...I know St. Vincent's de Paul, Goodwill and the Salvation Army all provide some kind of voucher program to help people who qualify with vouchers to their stores for any furniture or clothing needed (might help with a baby on the way) and for sure, have her sign up for WIC and if needed visit your local food bank and get her into couponing (will help with diapers and wipes-and the wipes are running about $.79-$.99/box for Huggies at WAGS right now with the WAGS coupon booklet)...good luck and hang in there...I believe that all children are a gift from God, so regardless of how many struggles there are right now, things will get better....and by the way, I was a teen mom myself and my son is now 17 and on his way to college and my life is great (been married for 16 years and have 5 kids, a home, paid off vehicles and a nice job) so things do get better!!

Oh yes, and cloth diapers! :o) A place like Cloth Diapers & Parenting Community - DiaperSwappers.com or Welcome to Diapertraders.com, your home of everything parenting! to purchase some used ones is a great place. I have been using some of the same diapers for 4 children now... HUMONGOUS SAVINGS! I've spent about $300 total diapering 4 children. And cloth wipes are easy as well... I like the baby washcloths you get for a package of 6 at dollar tree for a buck. Wet with water and they clean so much easier! And breastfeeding... well, that's free
