 Did any of you know JCPenny had a "Coupon Queen" arrested in 2000?
It's true! So I'm looking through an OLD Reader's Digest (2004) while sitting in the doctor's office today and on one of the pages, the words "Coupon Queen" caught my eye. I got to reading and come to find out, this lady bought several of JCPenny's $5 catalogs because they had a $10 Coupon in them for Barbies. She ended up getting $80 worth of Barbies for $5 and so JCPenny had her arrested for GRAND THEFT!!!!!!! I went to the liberty of scanning the page and searching for a few links in google to validate the article further. She did counter sue and was awarded $525,000 in damages. Yay for this lady! I can't believe JCP tried to prosecute her for buying up $5 catalogs  ridiculous!

OMG, crazy!!! What did they expect people to do...buy the magazines and decide the coupons weren't worth using???? That's nuts!

I know this was just too much! =) The receptionist just looked at me like I had lost my mind when I asked her if I could "borrow" the Reader's Digest to scan something out of it! She was like "good lord, just take it, as old as it is, I don't know how it's even here!" * *yeah, I said, well, you just wouldn't understand, but I got a group of friends that will HAVE to see this for them selves! Where were we in 2004? Is it possible we didn't notice because maybe we weren't really that into coupon/refunding back then? I mean, I took a break after my grandmother passed on, so that's probably why I didn't pay any attention. You guys think maybe JC Penny has changed their coupon policy since then? I'm betting they have !

WOW! that's all I have to say about that, JcPenny is CRAZY..... I guess they tried to make and example out of her for their mess up. Don't tell anyone this one but many years ago... You know how they have the change of address forms at the postoffice. The little booklet like. Well at that time they had coupons in them, I don't know if they still do or not. Anyway JcPenny had a $5 off $5 purchase coupon in them so my friend and I picked up several copies and used them in the store buying only $5 items of course paying tax only. We went to different registers though. But I guess that didn't matter low and behold we were being watched. These JcPenny security followed us out the mall to see what type of car we were in. I guess that could have been us. Locked up! Man It wasn't my intent to tell this story I was actually getting ready to say thanks for sharing. When my situation came rushing back to memory. I guess I've always been a frugal shopper and just never really payed attention till now a days. |
