Actually if you can get to a Walmart sometime, they have Coffee Filter Baskets... they are reuseable and last a very long time. They come in cone shaped and basket shaped. They run about $8 but are well worth it over time because you're not having to buy coffee filters (or run out) nor have those going into your garbage (good for the compost pile though). Here's a link at Amazon so you can see what they look like: Amazon.com: coffee filter . |

Thanks! I've thought about getting these, I really like they are reusable, better for the environment too. I'll have to figure out if they'd fit our coffee maker or not. It doesn't say it takes reusable filters, but I'll check.

| I don't think any of the coffee makers say that. I could be wrong though. Ours is a Gevalia coffee maker (yep got it in the freebie deal thing they have going on every once in a while) and the cone basket fits in it perfectly. We used to have a Mr. Coffee and it died but I used the basket filter in it... gave it to dd for her hope chest prior to getting married so she uses it now.

We use #6 cone filters (this size is hard to find) for a Melitta. The best price I have been able to find is at Kroger. They had them (all sizes) 10 for $10 so I stocked up. This was sometime between July and October. I have not seen a sale this good since. I noticed that the size 4 filters were on sale this week at Kroger (for $1, I believe). We had q's for Melitta filters last year, but I have not seen one in a while. HTH.

I find the cheapest place for filters is Wags, they often have them on sale for .99 for a 100pk. for both cone and basket type filters. I also use the permanent gold filter basket, but I also put in a paper filter inside it, for health reasons. I read that there is some substance in coffee(can't think what it's called right now, maybe tannens?) that can clog the arteries and damage your heart and that just using the permanent filter is not enough to strain this out. They recommended using this double filter system to strain the substance out and I've been doing it ever since! It didn't effect the coffee's flavor, and I figured there is enough stuff out there to clog your arteries, this way I've easily eliminated one of them! HTH!

Depending on your make and model---the dollar stores and Big Lots often have good deals. BTW- I have used regular filters in my one maker that is for cone shaped filters....it works fine for me and its so much cheaper.
