Childrens place had the costumes there for 50% off. Under $12 for them. Nothing warm though, but some really cute fairies and cowboys. HTH.

This might sound like I am being silly...but the cheapest place is your closet! When I was a kid, me and my mom got creative. I wasn't really into cartoon characters so it was easy for her. I remember being Punky Brewster one year, that was really easy...I had the freckles and all. One year we used a lime green sweat suit and made me a fairy unicorn. One year I was determined to go as my mom for Halloween so I was a "businesswoman"...carried her brief case and all. So the moral of my story is, give it a shot...never know what you have! |

Creative costumes 101.... One year my sister went as a bag of jelly beans. Clear trash bag with holes for her arms and legs, filled up with small multi-colored balloons then tied with a ribbon at the neck. That one was cute. She wore black leggings and a coat under the bag/balloons. One year I went as a "mom". I wore curlers in my hair, a bath robe and tied a few baby dolls around my ankles. LOL! (This costume has a whole new meaning to me now as a "real mom"!) No wonder my mom thought it was so funny... I would advise against the costume my sister wore the year she went as "Aunt Jemima". You know, the pancake syrup lady. (This was the early 80s, mind you--times have changed!) She was SOOO cute with the do-rag in her hair and face paint and dress w/ apron. It was an awesome costume until we showed up at the door of an African-American lady (pretty rural caucasion town we lived in!!). My mom was SOOOO embarrassed! The lady just laughed and gave us candy! Still not a "repeat costume" IMO! I also went as Lady Liberty one year. We had found this horrible lime-green bedsheet in my grandma's closet over the summer and made a crown and torch to go with it. I wrapped myself up in the sheet (toga-style) and painted my face green. That was a pretty cute one, too! Thanks for letting me share the memories!! Time to find the pictures! What happened to the good ol' days of making costumes???? This year, I'm using a diaper box with a hole in the top and bottom to make a "Thomas the Train" costume for my 18 mo. old. I'll decorate the box to look like Thomas and then do a couple of ribbons to go over his shoulders to hold the train up. Gonna have to get started on this pretty soon!
