HEE Hee, I had to laugh that your 13 y/o does that , my kids do it all the time, drives me nuts. As for Aldi's the one in my area is very nice, it is fairly new, and much smaller than your average grocery store. When you come up to the store , on the side are the carts. You have to put a quarter in to get one out, you get it back when you put it away. This prevents carts from being all over, and they don't have to pay someone to corral them. You should bring your own bags or boxes, or you will have to pay like .10 for paper, or .15 for plastic. Often times if they have just restocked, they will have a cart or pallet of boxes that you can take.As far as the selection goes, there is usually only 1 or 2 choices of brands on items, like maybe 2 kinds chicken noodle soup. Most of the items I have tried at Aldi's are very good, certainly as good as brand name items, and sometimes they have special buys of limited quanity frozen items, etc. that are excellent! The problem is you may find something there that you absolutely love, and they won't have it the next time. I have had excellent luck with the meat at Aldi's, and they often have markdowns. The only thing that I have ever had any trouble with(not always) is produce, sometimes it is not quite ripe, or it spoils very fast, however sometimes the deals just can't be beat. The everyday price on milk, eggs, and bread is generally lower than everywher else. At mine they generally only have 1 cashier working, which is annoying on busy weekends, but the line moves pretty fast. All in all, I like Aldii's for the evryday prices, and some specialty items, but they do NOT accept coupons, so with sales at other stores w/q's the prices are often better. It is nice though to have another go to store in the mix if deals are sparse. HTH Niki

We have one opening near me that will be across the street from a Kroger. Thanks for the Aldi's info, I was wondering myself what they are all about.

I don't go that often because it's not to close to me - but they have some REALLY low prices on some stuff - I think the everyday price of a gallon of milk is $1.89 here where at all the other stores it's more like $3.69 - so a good price. They sometimes have brand names of stuff but since you can't use coupons you'll find that most of it you can do better with in the store. As far as their brand stuff - it's typically a really great deal. I think I've bought their onions once at 3lbs for like $.69- $.89 which i thought was good. Just look around - some of their knockoff items are REALLY good and compare really well to the real brand. There is a post about peoples favorite items from Aldi - it pays to probably take a look at that.

Great descriptions of Aldi! The only thing I would add is that they back their products. I think they will give you a refund and replace the product if you aren't satisfied.

Aldi's is great for stocking up. I used to go every payday, but since I've started couponing, I find that I can find brand name stuff for the same price or cheaper on many things we use here. I go about once a month now and stock up things I don't have coupons for and staples. Having said that, most of the food from Aldi is very good. And for things like taco seasoning, gravy, juices, sugar, flour, I can't tell the difference in brands anyway. Milk and eggs are WAY cheaper there than anywhere around me. We were firm Prego lovers but after trying Aldi's Premium spaghetti sauce (.99 a jar) we actually like the Aldi's brand better. And their 13 gallon trash bags are great and priced about $2.50 for 30! They are thick, I never have a problem with them splitting, and trust me we stuff our can FULL! ![]() The only things I avoid there are fruits, specifically bananas and apples, and bread sometimes. Bananas are too under ripe and sometimes they just never ripen up, and apples have no flavor to me. The vegetables do seem to have a shorter life span, but I think they taste good. The bread tastes just fine, but when I put it in the freezer the crust gets hard and well... crusty. If brand names don't matter to you, you can get most of your shopping done here, and overall the quality and prices are good. |

They will. My father is retired, and very bored. He takes great pleasure in returning anything he doesn't like. I think he enjoys having someone besides my mom to talk to! ![]() |

First of all, it needs to be said that Aldi does not accept coupons. They are a budget grocery store. They don't carry a lot of name brand items, other than occasional close-out type items. I think Aldi is awesome for basics and need-it-now items that you can't get with a coupon. Generally if I wait I can beat their price using coupons and sales at other stores, but you can't beat their everyday and sale prices on produce. Here's a quick list of some of the items I buy there often: bag of onions: 69¢ lemon or lime: 25¢ pineapple: 1.99 olives: 99¢ green pepper: 69¢ (pack of 2) bananas: 39¢ lb There are a lot of other things, too. I haven't had any problems with the quality of the produce. One other thing is that at my store, the cashiers are friendly and VERY fast! I can get in and out of there in 10 minutes with a bag full of produce. |

Definitely great if you need something & don't have coupons. I only shop there about once a month since Kroger deals with the coupons are usually better but they've got some good deals. And they will clearance stuff too so keep your eyes open. My kids love the cereals & I'll buy them if we need it & Kroger doesn't have a sale. Chips & juice pouches for lunches too. Fruits & veggies are always a great price. I think you'll find some deals. |
