New to Aldi's

We have an Aldi's opening June 4th minutes from my house...I want to know any secrets going to Aldi's that I need to know.

Do you take your own reusable bags into the store?

I just want to know how this whole process works.

What about Debit/credit card uses?

Thanks!

I shopped Aldis quite a bit before I started couponing. You can take your own bags in or buy them when you check out. Also as boxes get empty of the products you can use them to carry your groceries. You do bag your own groceries. They only take debit cards and cash. You'll need a quarter for the shopping cart. They stay locked together until you put a quarter in and then when you return the cart you get the quarter back. HTH

you have to take reusable bags or you will have to BUY some of theirs

lots of good prices, frozen stuff is good, produce is good, frequently cheaper on basics - milk, bread, eggs

I have heard that some of the off brands are really made by well-known brands for them specifically

they have some chocolate chip cookies...can't remember the brand, but they are great

give 'em a try and report back ; don't think they do q's, since most stuff is NOT brand name

I love Aldi as well. There spaghetti sauce is my favorite, I won't even get ragu or prego even if its free because we won't eat it. If you look at my stockpile pics you will see most of my stuff in my cabinets are from there. They really do have good quality food. I don't think there is anything I have bought from there that I didn't like.

I just can't wait to go in the morning right after they open, we have been out of lots of things all week in anticipation of Aldi's opening! I am in desperate need of my produce and have heard nothing but good things about their prices!!! I'll report back tomorrow on what I thought.

I am taking cash but hoping that my debit card will work and taking my reusable shopping bags from Martins and Foodlion since they were free ones!! My kids will love putting the quarter in to get the cart!

I will not sleep tonight..like a little kid!

Thanks everyone for their input!

Check your newspaper for Grand Opening specials. When ours first opened they had money off coupons in the paper. Can't remember how much but I am thinking $5. It really goes far.

I love Aldi's!!!!!

I go there at least once a week for my primary grocery shopping.

Things to note
- Aldi's does not take coupons and they do not match prices.

- Most items at ALDIs are store brand labels, but they have always been good quality. Everything I have tried I like (except for the spaghetti sauce.. go figure someone above in the AFC forum really likes it.)

- I used to pack my groceries in the empty product boxes but found out I really like the recycle bags. I bought two and can almost always fit my groceries in them as they are really big. As soon as I empty, I always put them back in my car so I always have them available.

- I find that most items at Aldis are significantly cheaper than any other store in my town. Especialy things like milk, eggs, cheese, flour, surgar, coffee, cereal, bread, etc.

- They do not carry many brands for each item. Usually only their store label. If your faimily is not brand sensitive, they will love it.

- They usually have weekly "special purchase items" that include everything from cookware, to blankets, to camping tents, and even electronics. If you see a weekly special purchase item that you want, consider buying it then as they do not restock and when it is gone, its gone.

- When I make my weekly grocery list, I look through the flyers for the other stores and compare their sales price to my homemade Aldi price list. If the other store is cheaper than Aldi's (especially with coupons) and it is something I will use, I stock up on the specials at the other store. If Aldi is cheaper, I ignore the sale and continue to buy as I normally would at Aldi's. I see no need to stock up on everyday Aldi items at regular price.

- I posted my Aldi price list in the AFC aldi forum here. Prices at your store may vary.

Go to their site and sign up for the weekly ad's and you should get a coupon. I think it is $ 5.00 off of $ 30.00. ALDI - Home page

It was great...but it was so stinking crowded this morning at 9:25. There were lots of management people there to help with the grand opening and everything. I was still in and out of there in about 30 mintues with two 4 year old kids. I will have to go back when it is not so crowded to browse a little bit more at prices, etc!

I have shopped Aldi for YEARS...it's great. The food is good and they are so much cheaper...especially on produce. I can actually afford to get my kids fresh veggies and fruit! I buy the kids grapes (2.50 a container there) bananas and oranges and apples (sometimes 99 cents a bag!)
Glad you enjoyed your trip. Every store I have ever been to is always crowded....so I try and go in in the middle of the week and mid afternoon to miss most of it.

Have fun!!

You can take your own bags in but they also let you use any boxes you come across. they only accept debit cash or ebt cards. you have to pay a quarter for your cart but you get it back when your done with the cart. its just so they can keep costs down by not paying anyone to corral carts and not have carts bang peoples cars up. They have a system @ the register so everything moves fast and steady. I know quite a bit about it i work there so if you have any other questions ill be happy to try to help you! hope you enjoy your experience there!
