My DDs elementary school is participating in the Forgotten Soldiers Outreach. They are collecting items that will be packed in boxes and shipped to Afghanistan and Iraq in honor of fallen soldier and former student of their school, Michael StansburyJr.

The items are due no later than April 22nd so I realize that is fairly close but I thought if anyone could pull of something special it would be my AFC friends!

I have depleted my supply of Airheads, Yakisoba and Trident Vitality gum sending them to the school. This is a list of items that they are collecting:

Please send in any of the items listed below before April 22nd :
Ramen Noodles/Cup of noodles
Beef Jerky/Slim Jims
Canned goods with pop tops (Ravioli, Spaghettios, fruit)
Sunflower Seeds
Instant macaroni & Cheese (Easy Mac)
Lip Balm/Chapstick
Nuts- cashews, peanuts, pistachios
Trail Mix
Crackers- prepackaged with cheese or peanut butter
Batteries (all sizes)
Gum/Candy (nothing that will melt, no chocolate)
Powered individual drink mixes
Travel size deodorant, mouthwash, shaving cream, hand sanitizer,
foot & baby powder, baby wipes or Cottenelle wipes (all travel size)
disposable razors
Handmade cards & letters of encouragement!!!!!
(if you have sent these in prior to March 1st, they have already been mailed)

I often see these lists and there is one thing that is never mentioned, but should be included. Q-tips!!!!

When I was over in the desert my squad leader had a care package sent and it had a huge pack of them. I think we used all of them that day and all wrote home and asked to have more sent. There was just something nice about having clean ears for once.

Hot sauce is always nice to have laying around too. I know MRE's have a tiny little bottle of it in each one, but it's not enough to drown out the flavor of some of those meals.

I definitely will pass on the suggestions! I think I may even have some Q tips and hot sauce to send in.
