Free/Cheap things to send to overseas soldiers

Our parent group is collecting things to send to a couple of overseas soldiers who are in Afgahnistan.

What items can I get for free or cheap to send over there?? I have some of the Dove shampoos and some of the free Purel. I also have some of the J&J first aid kits travel sizes to send.

Any suggestions on cheap things that could be sent over there would be greatly appreciated.

I want to send useful things. Of course, I'll be throwing in some candybars and such.

I send razors(Gillette), wipes, deodorant, toothpaste(Crest), visine, gum(Trident), purell, soap. As far as my husband goes in Iraq they have a laundry service but I don't know how they do things in Afghanistan. You could even send bandaids so they don't have to ask the medic each time.

All of the above things are great ideas. When my husband was in Afghanistan a couple years ago they also had laundry service so I'm not sure the tide would be useful. The halls cough drops might be good to send over as well.

My husband always requests individual size wet wipes and spray or candles to keep the bugs away. I ended up supplying his whole FOB with them Lol. Hope that helps..

I haven't sent anything over yet but I plan to. When I wonder what kind of things to get to send, I check anysoldier.com and lots of times soldiers put a list of things they would like. I did find one that does not have a laundry service so the Tide might be useful. I guess it would depend on the location. Pretty much any HBA item is good to send.

I know my husband who is currently there asks for some hygeine items like doderate, wipes, tooth pastes, tooth brushes all that you can get in the travel section. I always pack everything in ziploc bags 1-to keep the sand/dirt out and 2-they reuse the bags over there. Food is always a good thing like sunflower seeds and the one thing that everyone trys to take from him is the Kool Aide singles, they have at walmart the Hawaiian Punch brand and you get 8 or 10 in a box for a dollar they love those!

The pullups wipes would be awesome to send if you have the $3 off 2 q and send the refill packs.

$1 Johnson products with Johnson $1/1 qs

All the razors everyone got free the last few weeks at Target and Walgreens

The first aid kits are definately a great idea....as well as the bandaids on sale right now at wags....use the mfc and wags q together and get them free!!!

Also their is a great q out there for the crystalite to go packets and gatorade powder, my friend really liked these to spice up his water

Beef jerkys a hit if you have the q from last months all you for it FREE

Good luck and thanks for sending stuff to support our troops. I am sending two boxes next week and mine are full of snacks for Halloween and a blow up monkey i found...thought it would make them laugh.

There was a $1.50 off men's Sure deodorant coupon in today's paper
It's free this week at Walgreens with their 7 day coupon
The Pert shampoo is pretty cheap too after RR and coupons
coupons in todays paper for it too , if the mens pert is included in the sale it should be free after RR and coupons (haven't check yet to see if included but really hoping it is because I send tons of Pert over to Afghanistan- it doubles great as body wash in a pinch too )

editing to add :
McCormicks $1.00 off coupon also in todays paper -
the grinders and grill mates go on sale a lot (around me anyways) and I can usually pick them up free with the coupon
they are usually a big hit in the areas where the guys grill/cook their own food.
Rayovac $1.00 off coupon - free batteries at Target
can't go wrong picking up AA an AAA
Trident layers gum BOGO coupon in today's paper - it's 2/$2 at walgreens this week and you get back $1RR

If you still have $3/2 J&J blinkies and a CVS
you can pick up 2 first aid to kits for each blinkie plus one of the travel size johnson q tips
the to go kits satisfy the coupon requirements and the overage will cover the cotton swabs . They always need lots of q-tips (many use them to clean the sand out of their weapons )

I know this is an old thread but I've been wanting to send stuff over for awhile and wanted to know about a few things..

-Baby wipes: Would it be okay to package like 10 or so in ziploc baggies so that they could just throw a baggie in a pack before they do whatever they are doing vs. sending a big ole tub that not only takes up a ton of space but adds not necessary weight?
-Snacks: With all the free wheat thins/triscuits/etc at wags recently would be it okay to package those in baggies as well?
-Raozrs: What about sending the cheap/free bic/schick razors that I was able to get at walmart? They are disposable.
-Shampoo/conditioner: Is it okay to send regular size of these?
-Buddy bars: Do they really use these even though for kids??
-Theraflu: Do they need these or can they really USE them?? Meaning is it okay since it's a medicine to send over there?
-Laxative: I have a ton of the dulcolax that I won't use. Thoughts on sending that?
-Tin foil: What that be used if I sent it over in baggies of sectioned off foil to save space?
-Candles: Glad tins that I got free after the holiday scents went on sale..would these be okay to send over??
-First aide: I have lots of rolls of guaze and guaze pads as well as the mini first aide kits. Can they use it all??
-Fabric softener: All the free snuggle means i have way more boxes than I can use. Could they use it if I sent it in baggies or is the smell too much?
-Floss: I have a ton I got free...good?
-batteries: Do they need all size or mainly AA??

I used to send to my ex when he was there but that was back in early 2003 when they first got sent there and so I have forgotten what is used and what isn't. And back then I sent mainly food since there was no bases that they were at all the time and they lived on MRE's on the way to try and oust Sadam.

I just asked DH who got back last month about your list and he said go ahead and send all that but just keep everything in its original packaging. They are less likely to use the baby wipes if they have been taken out of the tubs.

Okay thanks for the info. Now I have some boxes packaged up to send over there, nothing real gender specific but have no idea how to get addresses to send them to. Anyone have any ideas or maybe can PM me if they know someone over there who could use them and all that. I have 4 I can send over.

After all the free benevia from Rite Aid I am going to put together a box with a bunch of those in it. I ended up with way more than we can drink ourselves before they expire. We just had a unit go out so I figure some of them may like it. Also you can never go wrong with pogy bait and hygiene items!
