cashier interpretation of coupon use

Last week at Kmart, I had a cart full of items and coupons for all of them.

Most times I do small orders so and I ususally know what the sub-total will be after double coupons. Most times when I have duplicate coupons I try to seperate them in smaller quanities to make sure they all get scanned.

This trip I got in a hurry because I had to go to work. I had 10 manufacturer coupons from the Kmart coupon book for fabric softener. First the cashier read the coupon, then went to the service counter (she was gone for at least 5 minutes)
When she finally came back, she said the coupon says limit one for purchase.
I said I had 1 coupon for each bottle. She said "no no you know what it means." I really didn't, I 'm assuming she meant one coupon per shopping trip?????
I pulled out a handful of coupons I had cut from newspaper inserts and said they all say limit 1 per purchase. She told me no they don't. I tried to show her but she didn't look.

I didn't want to argue with her, she said that whoever she asked at the counter said to go ahead and use my coupons because they didn't want an unhappy customer. Wow what was I supposed to do be appreciative???

It takes alot of time to cut and organize coupons, then go through the whole store looking for what is worth buying with my coupons, then get to the counter and have them change the rules from the last times they have doubled the coupons.
It seems like some cashiers make up their rules.

If it 's a manufacturer coupon with a K (kmart) on it, why do some cashiers and store managers say they can't double it because it's a Kmart coupon? Some kmarts double, some don't.

Does anyone have advice on how to handle these kind of situations?

I truly think sometimes it's the cashier making his/her own rules. It stinks.. but keep on keeping on!

Stand your ground if you KNOW you are right. The only real way to KNOW you are right and to prove it is have a copy of their own coupon policy in your binder (or whatever you use for your coupons).

Good luck and don't give up!

Welcome to AFC too btw!

had that at Wags today...with the children's benadryl. They gave me hell becuase I used the q from the coloring book + the MFR, and they said "one per purchase" - I flipped out....i was ready to just leave. Then she goes "oh well just THIS time" -

after that i went to CVS. LOVELY people in my CVS. I was the only customer in store at 0800 - and the manager said "i praise you for using coupons!! If you ever come when the store is busy, I'll personally check you out and Ill yell to the other customers how much you saved!!"

What a difference. Yes, they do make up their own rules. They make me feel like i am stealing stuff, but they get reimbursed for it anyways, and I didnt abuse!
