Hello all. I joined AFC last night and feel as though I haven't left my computer since that point, or this website for that matter. I think it is great that this site has such a vast network of people, and offers unlimited resourses for anything dealing with using coupons to get a bargain. However, I have two questions for anyone who might be able to answer. I entered a forum a little bit ago and posted a thread dealing with the subject matter, however, I a "reputation" button turned red at the top of my screen and my envelope in the thread turned red as well. Does this mean I did something wrong? What is a "Reputation"? My second concern deals with PM's. Somebody pm'd me and asked if I would like to trade but when I tried to reply it said I need 5 posts first. Does this mean posting a thread itself or can it be replying to a post as well?

I'm not sure what the button you're talking about is. I have a link at the very top right hand screen, but it is only the word "reputations". Might be different on different browsers though.
That doesn't mean you did something wrong. At the bottom of your post it says, "The Following User Says Thank You to jsokol3 For This Useful Post:" and right above that there are 6 buttons. One of those is a reputation button and one is a thanks. People can use those buttons to thank you for your post.

I'm pretty sure that the 5 posts rule is posts to threads. If so, you'll be there soon. It's saying that you have 3 posts already.

I think your reputation button turning red just meant someone left you a "thanks". I am sure that if you joined I welcomed you and put this on your welcome page but I'll post it here too.

It really helped me naviagate the site a little better when I joined.

Hi!! Welcome to AFC! You're going to love it here! My best advice is to read read read!! You can learn so much! Yes, you will spend quite a bit of time here! Take that time and do it! If you factor in how much money you're going to save by learning and reading on here than you are actually going to paid a lot of money for the time you spend here!

I'll share with you what was shared with me when I first joined! Thanks to "oldtingrl" !

Your Username ~ when you click it..it'll take you to your personal profile page.

Settings ~ when you click this..it'll take you to the page where you're thank you's and reps are listed. It also gives you access to your control panel, networking, settings & options, private messages, subscribed threads, moderation, miscellaneous, your notepad, and blog.

Inbox ~ this takes you to your Private Message page (this is basically the AFC version of in-house email).

Update (this only appears when you have a new message in your Inbox or on your profile page) ~ it will have a number next to it too. This will allow you see how many messages you have.

Logout ~ pretty obvious what this one does.

At the bottom of every page, on the left hand side you will find "Acronyms and Terms used here". If you see a term or abbreviation you are not sure about, you can click that and it will help you find what you need to know.

To see all the new chatter that is coming in for all the forums, you can click "Forum" (this is found at the top of the page, on the left-hand side). When you click this, a little box will scroll down and give you a little list of items to choose from. Click "New Posts" and it will show all the newest threads for the forums as they are submitted.

Giving/Receiving "Thanks" or "Rep" is a fun feature here at AFC. If you see a post that has inspired you, helped you, or given you a moment of pause , you can click the "Thanks" button (located at the bottom of each post; it's blue with a little gold arrow picture) this will insert your username at the bottom of their post. This lets them know you appreciate their post. OR If you would like, you can click the "Rep" button (located at the bottom of each post; it's blue with a + sign picture). When clicking this you're given the opportunity to leave a small comment, telling the poster what you appreciate. They're both a way to show your appreciation, but you can only do one or the other..not both. So, when you see someone's username listed under your post..you'll know you've been "Thank'd" and your post is much appreciated.
