| YTD Savings Total Q
I was wondering what criteria people use for this. I've noticed people have already logged thousands of dollars in savings so far for 2009. Are they buying cars or something? LOL I was thinking it may be something like what they save using insurance for perscriptions or something, but I wasn't sure. Thanks! |

The savings can come from coupons, stores doubling / tripling coupons, and store sales among other things. I haven't used over $400 in coupons, but many of my coupons have been doubled / tripled, and I include store savings as well. Since CVS seems to overprice some items, my savings at CVS is higher than at other stores.

I use what is at the bottom of my receipt where it says your saving is $$. Using a chart to keep track of all my receipts I get my year to date savings. No new car here. Just love a good deal. HTH's

Your YTD savings is how much you saved in coupons, clearance, doubles, triples, what ever wags and cvs offers, (don't shop those) any discount that you aquire. I go buy the shelf price when adding my savings. Example: garnier shampoo is $3.79 It's on clearance for $1.89 After my $1.00 mfc I spend 89c So I figure my total savings to be $3.79 - 89c = $2.90 in savings, not the $1 mfc. A lot of the YTD totals were due to christmas 90% off in jan. People who are able to shop wags and cvs get lots, and lots for free. HTH Lynda |

Do you all count everything you buy or just your grocery/household items?

Everything I buy and save money on. I even include the gas coupon I used at cub yesterday. I only saved $2.70 total, but hey it's a savings. Now if I was to lower my cable bill, by lets say $20 a month, I would consider that a savings and include it in my YTD. If I was to buy a new fridge and found one for $100 cheaper at menards, that would be a $100 savings. To me anyways. I'm getting the fridge for $100 less than I had originally planned on spending. Yes, some of those totals can be misleading. You don't know what they have spent...just what they have "saved". Plus...many members live in the land of doubles or triples.

I, just started tracking my spending and coupon savings during the past 4 months, so that I could see where my money was going! and so as of calculating my savings I only count the amount I save from the actual coupons, I do count fast food coupons, my ultimate goal is to eventually be able to use a coupon for everything I buy.

At CVS I include my store savings. I got a lot of monitors on sale and was able to use $/$$ coupons to get other stuff free/cheap. Some of the monitor prices were more than what I paid and then with the q's they were free. That savings is the same "Year to date savings" on the bottom of my CVS receipt. I'm trying to balance that out by only including my coupon savings at other stores.

| Go to your home page and edit details. At the bottom there is a space for the YTD savings.

I have been using the total saving at bottom of receipts, rebate checks, rebate cards, and I minus what I pay for q's. I think we need to have how much we spent along with how much we saved. Just a thought!

I've been imputing what is listed at the bottom of my receipts everytime I shop. That includes store sales that I take advantage of, coupons and the one store that doubles.

I figure mine just like Lynda1811- the difference in the price than what you would have paid at original price. Since I have been getting so many good deals at JCP it is adding up fast this year. Last year I only added up coupon savings and not sales savings, but it was still over $13,000 for the whole year.

I just keep track of my coupon savings. I don't have the time to figure regular price vs sale... Be sure you don't rely on the savings amt on the bottom of Target reciepts. They are rarely right. HTH

I use Excel and have a column for my original total, my total after my coupons, store coupons, doubles, sales, etc, a column for the total saved, a column for any ECB, RR, OYNO, etc and then two % columns that track my average savings; one counting the ECB, RR, OYNO, etc., and one that doesn't. I keep each month in a different "book" and keep a running YTD on the bottom. I track every ticket from every store. When I get home I set all my tickets on the desk and when I get time when the kids get home I log them all in.

my thoughts are if i used a coupon i count the savings- otherwise i haven't. i use the total at bottom of receipt to give me info but i have started charting on calendar so i can see how much shopping i am doing during week and spending/savings. It has been awesome to be able to know exactly what i am spending and how often. The sales can be addictive so that helps me monitor that i am not shopping EVERY day. Nothing wrong with daily shopping but I don't want to be consumed by the sales which is VERY easy. i am fairly new to AFC and i am excited to see what i can save in a year. With the economy right now its heaven sent.

i just track how much i save total at each store i shop at, even gas stations. Also I saved like $150 at Aeropostale on clearance clothes ($80 jacket for $9.99!!!) so I counted that too.
