| McDonald’s adding items McDonald’s Corp. is adding a premium spicy-chicken sandwich and an Asian salad to its menu.
The new sandwich will debut in February and the salad in May, McDonald’s North America President Ralph Alvarez said. Both are aimed at customers willing to pay more for healthier foods. The chain is also adding a robust coffee in March because the growth of Starbucks Corp. raised customers’ expectations, he said.
“We’ve got to give consumers variety and new tastes,” Alvarez said after he spoke to a National Retail Federation convention in New York on Monday. “They’re not coming just for our tried-and-true core products.”
New products that are in development include “drinkable breakfast” such as enriched yogurts that appeal to consumers’ demand for convenience and healthy foods, Alvarez said. |
