I requested a copy of the Shaw's coupon policy that my store has up and received one via email.

One of the lines on their coupon policy state "The amount of redemption will be credited during the transaction, and will be printed on the register receipt. Redemption may not exceed the value of the item being purchased"

This is the line that gave me the issue at my Shaw's last week when trying to use Kool-Aid to purchase the FREE items. The store claimed that the Kool-Aid was lower than the price of the FREE items so it was against their policy to accept the coupon.

I disagree, of course. I take that line to mean that they can't turn in the coupon for $5 on say "Wheat Thins" because the value is supposed to be $4.50 or less for redemption on the "Wheat Thins". I also take that line to mean if I was purchasing an item that was $1 but using a $1.25 off coupon, then technically they shouldn't accept the coupon because they are not supposed to change the value of the coupon from $1.25 to $1.

How does everyone else interpret that line in their coupon policy?
