I put ice in my Pointer's bowl too. Occasionally, I give her a cube to play with, but eventually she leaves it somewhere to melt. I had a Doberman that loved to play with ice cubes, but would get bored and leave them to melt too. Dh would get irritated, but I reminded him that dogs don't understand the physics of ice. I'm sure they think that funny cold toy will be there later.
