In terms of danger tampons to cause toxic shock which can be fatal, but the odds of getting it are slim. I was reading about it recently because someone in our circle passed away from toxic shock, and basically there was a PG tampon called Rely that was so super absorbant that it was recalled because of the high occurance of toxic shock. From everything I've read it is better to not use super heavy duty tampons and to change them very frequently and not leave them in overnight so you don't get toxic shock. In terms of stockpiling just be very careful to keep them in a dry and cool place, somewhere that they can't get wet or moldy or mildewy or soiled. I always buy them on sale and keep a stockpile of them in my dry closet away from all moisture. Here is another article I recently read about tampons so always read about recalls!
