You know, I have never bought more than the coupon stated, so I am unsure. Strange thing was I used this same type of store coupon a few weeks ago, and it took off .50 from each box on the receipt. I used the same type of coupon last week and it showed the total taken off together down on the bottom of the receipt. 
Hopefully someone else can answer your question for sure. My gut says it is programmed to only take off for the three boxes leaving the fourth box at the ringed up price.
