Question about Pure Protein

I made a Wags run at lunch hoping to score some of the Pure Protein bars that are on sale for $0.99. I also had a $1.00 IP.

Do you see the trouble that's brewing?

I know the Wags coupon policy pretty well, and thought this part:
Quote:
"In the event that any item's selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Walgreens will only accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is ever provided in exchange for any coupons."
means that they would either adjust the item or the coupon.

Well, neither the cashier nor the AM had any idea what I was talking about, and had no idea how to do what I was trying to do.

My questions:

1) Am I reading this part of the coupon policy incorrectly? Do stores have any obligation to adjust things?

2) I didn't think about this until just now, but what if I had other items in my transaction to absorb that $0.01 overage? Would that work?
