If you are selecting 'new posts' a thread that you've already read won't show up again until someone posts to THAT thread again.
If you want to find it after you've already read it but there are no new posts, you can select 'today's posts' and you should be able to find it easily enough (if it was today that it was last posted on), or just click on 'forum' itself and go through the various individual forums (which will take longer).
You can use the 'search' function too and sometimes get lucky.
