My own children have not had this, but, DD's best friend is 17 and just now going through a process similar to this. They also removed all her wisdom teeth at the same time last week, and broke the roof of her mouth, so they could stretch it (her mouth is too small)...now she is in process of being prepped for the "mini torture device"....I am assuming these are good things...But..it seems kind of scary.
