Desirae Young
Most couponers spend thousands of dollars on newspapers, but Desirae dumpster dives instead to get coupons for free. Literally dumpster diving. You see her on the show climbing into a public recycling bin (but it doesn’t look very clean to me, more like a dumpster… eek!). She spend 60 hours a week couponing, which includes checking websites for deals, creating shopping lists, dumpster diving for coupons, clipping coupons, shopping, and more. She saves an average of 90% on her entire grocery bill.
When her son was born they lived paycheck to paycheck but then she learned to coupon through online forums (ahem… AFullCup I bet was one of them).
She shops in this episode with her friend Blair and brings two binders with over 4,000 coupons.
Her shopping trip:
6 carts total!
4 transactions
1- 9 cents
2- $3.14
3- $17.48
4- 55 cents
$1077.66 worth of groceries
$21.26 spent
She faced a register that locked up, then a corporate decision to manually add up the coupons to deal with the error. Of course for the cameras the workers stay calm and deal nicely with her…

Stephanie Barr
Stephanie mother of 2 and coupon website owner. She spends $2,000 a year on Sunday newspaper subscriptions in order to get the majority of her coupons. When she needs more she will snatch newspapers from foreclosed homes. She also has 5 computers in her house and uses them to print coupons (which you can get up to 2 of each coupon per computer, so that can be up to 10 coupons). Furthermore, she uses e-coupons which can be loaded straight to her grocery store loyalty card. Unfortunately a glitch caused most of her e-coupons to not register. That’s so frustrating for a couponer!
She started couponing about 4 years ago due to back problems that caused her to be bed ridden. While in this predicament she researched couponing and learned how to get the major savings she now enjoys. She spends 35 hours a week couponing.
She takes her 18 year old son Philip on her shopping trip. She attempts to teach him her skills. He’s a pretty good sport if you ask me.
3 Carts
$516.12 in groceries
$29.06 spent
She’s disappointed because she was hoping to spend $0, but the e-coupon glitch prevented what would’ve been a $4 total. However, to all of us we think her savings were great! Good job!
