New to Couponing Part 12

Posted 01-29-2010 at 10:31 AM by lallyy

Hi Everybody and welcome back to “New to Couponing”. Today I would love to discuss an awesome tool that AFC has available to make our lives easier. I’ve said before that I am always looking for an easier and more efficient way of doing things and next to the coupon database, I use the shopping list the most. So check it out, try it for one sale week and see if it doesn’t help you. So, let’s jump in with both feet.
Under “Tools” on your blue AFC menu bar, go down the drop-down menu and click on “Store Shopping Lists” and click on it. A page will appear with the list of every conceivable store that I can imagine. If it ain’t there, it ain’t real! Kidding, of course. Anyway, scroll down to the store of your choice. Next to the name it will say “shopping list” and “forums”. Click on “shopping list”. A new page. It will say something like “Shopping List for Harris Teeter”. Under it you will see an invitation to visit the store forum. This will take you to the Forum for that store and will have multiple threads containing deals and sales. You can check that out, if you haven’t already. Next you will be given the opportunity to set parameters and preferences. Take the time to do this because it affects the shopping list and the final prices given.

Hello, Hello, Hello! Welcome back to AFC’s grocery blog. I want to first thank everyone for their kind statements and support of all my efforts. It is my personal goal to help any way I can. Many others here at AFC feel the same and have graciously given me permission to include some of their ideas and methods for organizing their coupons in this article. I would also like to list some ways to obtain extra inserts.

As I said in part 10 of this series of articles, there are as many ways to organize your coupons, as there are coupons. Each person has to individualize the way that bests suit him/her.  Here are a couple of additional ways used by AFC members:

Moggy: One thing that I have found out just recently that has helped me tremendously is to not cut out all my q’s from my inserts. I got this tip from one of the sites I go to – not sure if it was here or not but…I mark the front of the insert with the date, using a thick black magic marker (if you don’t know the date of the insert it is typed in teeny tiny type on the folded area between the front/back of the insert). Then I made a file for each type of insert i.e. Redplum, Smartsource, Snail Mail, etc. I file the whole inserts with the newest ones in the front.

20 Ways to save Money- Part 2

Most of us don’t live a 100% frugal life.  We save in areas that we are willing to compromise so that we can spend in other areas.  For me, that is obviously cars and motorcycles, but for someone else it could be their home, their kids, etc.  These are just some suggestions.

(1) Color your own hair. I have been doing this for years.  At one point in my life I thought I would be a better person if I went to a salon once a month.   It was costing me $45.00-$60.00 each MONTH.   The only difference I noticed was that I looked just like everyone else who had highlights/lowlights.

(2) Ration out your hair dye.  I actually learned this last year at one of my “Coupon parties”.  Buy your  regular hair color and only  mix what you need to touch up your roots.   Save the rest, unmixed, of course.  I am now able to get two uses from one bottle of hair color.  My friend can get three, but I have really long hair.

(3) BE DIFFERENT, be yourself.  This is where having your own identity comes into play and that can save you lots of money and some identity crisis issues later (maybe even some visits to a shrink).  Have I had pink, purple and maroon hair?  You bet, I actually have hot pink hair right now.

(3) Order contacts from VisionDirect or 1800contacts.  I placed an order from VisionDirect in 2009.  The price per box was $45.00 at the Vision Center at Wal Mart, where I normally buy my contacts.  At VisionDirect they were priced at $29.99.  I also got a 15% discount because I was a new customer and then got an additional discount because I ordered 8 boxes.     An order of $99.00 gets you free shipping and when I ordered, there were  rebates that netted me an additional $20.00 back.  Altogether I saved  $176.00 by ordering through them.  You do have to have a CURRENT prescription, within the last year to order from them and they do confirm this  with your vision center.

Hi again, everybody. Hope everyone is learning a little as we go along. Today I’d like to revisit “organization”. I don’t know about you but I’m always looking for an easier, more efficient way of doing things. I want to know that my time is being well managed so I have more time to enjoy life. In that vein I set out on an information gathering expedition and I’m going to share with you some of my discoveries.  Several people have given me permission to use their posts from some of the threads on AFC.  So read, evaluate and adapt these ideas however they suit your lifestyle.

First, I’d like to say that the method of organizing my coupons has changed drastically over the last few weeks. Initially, I clipped and filed all my coupons into my binder. Clipping and filing would take me all afternoon on Sundays and I would be overwhelmed at times. Since then, I have learned invaluable tips from the people here at AFC and have taken many of those ideas and made them work for me. When I started I had one or two inserts per week to deal with. I never seemed to have as many qs as I needed for those super deals, but I couldn’t imagine clipping more than one or two inserts per week.
